Editing recordings from standalone receiver.

I want to edit football games that I recorded using my standalone recorder. I've tried it w/ TMPGE Author 2 and like the results, but I want a program like Nero that can do more. Particularly, I want the ability to take a game (currently spread across two discs), edit out lag time between plays in which replay is not shown and edit out commercials to get it to fit onto one disc (or one DL disc). Can Nero do this? If Nero cannot, what program can I use to edit in conjunction with Nero (Best Buy has a good sale on Nero right now, so I'd like to pick it up, but not if it won't do what I want it to do).

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
