I have a question, is there ANY faster way to update the coder 3.8 cheats... I just got my modchip all up and installed, got myself a copy of GTA: SA and there's NO cheats for it.... i was just wondering if there's a quicker way, like a program or a format for a .txt or a file i can update on teh CD's or something... or do i have to do them manually?

oh and another question, action replay codes that i find online for FFX are the japanese version of PAR.... does that mean htat i just say that its the japanese version of the game orrr can i note use them w/ my USA copy of FFX?

ManuZ

thanks

For the Coder 3.8 you might have to do it manually if you can find a game save for you memcard with updated codes, I'm not very familiar with it. B careful tho i have known cheat devices to ruin you memcards

For the AR codes if the codes for a Japanese version of FFX that won't work with a US version of FFX. Something to do with the PS2 coding to access the game.

ohhhh okay okay, hmm... well i dunno, i'm *HOPING* that somone knows a way to do it easier... i dont really feel like having to go back to the days of NES and Game Genie where i had to manually enter over 200 lines of codes.... for a single game.

thanks thou

Ok, I'm wanting something similiar and I would be able to contribute to such a project, but my knowledge of C++ and PHP is limited to be up front but I just started learning but I'm a quick learner and this would be a perfect project for me if I had someone to give me some direction.

I ftped over the save information from SM3Coder. All codes are saved in a file named "codes" However, the file is not in a standard text format that would make it easy to edit. So, I opened it up in a HEX editor and found the following information..

I'm not sure what info is stored to offset 21 but after that it's a spacer (00), then the name of the game in ASCII format, another space, I think some kind of name/codes seperator, spacer, first part of the master code backwards in HEX, second part of master code backwards as HEX, spacer... etc... etc..

I would like to write a program that would edit this file directly, but I lack the majority of knowledge to do so, but I would like to pass on this info to someone who could. I do have enough knowledge to write some of the functions, though and would love to help.

That would definatelly help, I mean If there is a way to launch it from your flash drive onto ur PS2, becuase burning a copy of coder 3.8 prolly wont work... either way, If you could make such a program, to update it, or to have extra codes STORED into the PS2, as if you were to change one of the codes manually..... that would be amazing

i dont know anything about that stuff sooo yeah, i couldnt' help, but hopefully one of hte other Afterdawn members does know a thing or two about this type of coding

Well, it's not writing a program for the PS2. I was thinkig more of a Windows app that would just edit the "codes" file directly. Getting it to and from the PS2 would be a job for the end user, there are a number of ways to do that. I use the FTP daemon built into uLaunche and then just FTP to my memory card. I'm thinking of just making all the slots via the SM3CODER discs and then just HEX editing mine in, trying to put a bunch of codes in for all my games like 150+ ;D would be a pain.

Anyway, yeah, just being able to type the codes in via a keyboard would be a hellavulot better. Then maybe write functions that would convert ARMax codes automatically ;D.

I could write a DOS or Linux app if I just knew more about reading/writing to files. I just know how to read/write ASCII.

ALso, Coder saves the cheats into the memory card, is there any way to have a flash drive overwrite that file on the flash drive and just have one with all cheats that are updated? or even just create cheats on the PC and then overwrite those codes on the memory card?

should be able to do that... there's a thread that talks about how to update your AR codes using CD-R, can't find the link now but have a search for it, I'm guessing the process will be similar to that, but instead of a CD-R you'll be using USB flash instead?

Haven't seen anything on coder... the general impression I got from people is that coder isn't as good as swap magic 3.6 + AR, but it's worth a try I guess
