I have a backup of Ghost Recon:Advanced Warfighter, when i insert it, ps2 recognizes it at first, and displays the "PlayStation" logo, then after loading for a few seconds, it displays the red screen ("Please insert PS Format Disc"). I am using a modchip, all my other backups work perfect, i have around 25 backups, they all work fine, this is the only one giving me problem. I tried rebuilding it twice, once via Nero alone, and second time via CDdvdGen. I've burnt it on Sony DVD-R, backups of other games on Sony DVD-R work fine. Why doesn't this one?

Can anyone please help me out with this. Do I need to rebuild it someother way, or do I need to get a new modchip?

I'm using a v8 ps2, and im sorry i don't know the name of the modchip, i bought a pre-modified console.

if think step 1 for you should be to find out what chip is installed in your system, and download a firmware upgrade if available and update the chip, you should be able to find out which chip you have when the playstation 2 screen comes up just after loading the game, it should have the name of the chip beneath it.

did u put a label on the disc because i have a backup of that game and i didnt have to rebuild it and it worked fine. And my armored core and mgs3 backups started doing that when i added labels to them. Labels it hard to read the game.

waleedwc: i'll see if i can open my console, i was hoping to avoid this step as i'm afraid it might not fit back together once I open my console. anyways, i shall open the console and see whats in it. when the game loads it doesn't show any name anywhere on the screen. On the screen it displays everything as if the console was never opened. anyhow, please do check back, i will soon have a name or a picture of the modchip.

tomato15:the rebuild via CDdvdGen had the label on it, and the one via Nero didn't. both of them don't run (i.e. after the PS logo screen)

If the PS2 runs with some games and not with the others, its probably because its not a good burn, and another problem with the ps2 is that, when its hot, your ps2 refuses to load disks, this has happen to me several times, so what i suggest you do is open up the console and clean it out, locate the chip, and see whats written on it, and get back to me.
Also when you open it up, use a q-tip and alcohol(Windows cleaner is an alternative) to clean the laser eye.

I opened my console. I couldn't find the modchips name anywhere on the chip but i did get a picture of it. Its not clear cuz my camera won't focus properly at small distances and the modchip was more smaller than i expected. but i did manage to write down what was on the main black IC, it said Datel, 6CMC, ABD216AA.

i think that number is just for those IC's, did you clean the laser eye when you opened up the console, and let me know if it is just one game this is happening with, or all games, because you said earlier it was working okay with your other backups, if this is the case, then it could be that the copy is not good, or your chips firmware is old and isnt loading the game, which is un-likely.

this is the only game with which this is happening, all other backups work perfectly. and i've tried making backup again and again with different programs. Usually i just copy and burn via DVD Decrypter, but when that didn't work , i tried Nero, and i tried to rebuild it twice.

I didn't clean the lens partly because i was afraid if i took the dvd drive apart i'll most probably won't be able to fix back and partly because i am currently in middle-east where alcohol is strickly banned, anyone found with alcohol is prosecuted :(

I found one more guy trying to id his modchip it has datel gcmc written on it too, the last number is slightly different, but the first two figures are same (i know i wrote 6cmc, but i wear glasses and the print on ic was really small <8-D )

i've noticed the place where the modchip's name would have been is covered with white wires used to connect the modchip. I think its a china clone. I tried looking at magic modchips' pics. so far i haven't found anything that looks like the modchip that i have.

one thing i forgot to mention. This modchip doesn't boot ps1 disks (backups) i haven't tried original ps1 disks, they should boot.

before doing anything drastic, try a different brand of discs. when i first started backing up games, i was using crappy tdk, for a while all the games i burned worked and then one day a new game wouldnt boot. i changed media and presto.

verbatim are good, taiyo yuden, couple others - see stickied media thread.

i have 20 or 30 backups, more than 50% of them are on Sony DVD-R and the rest are on Imation DVD-R. I burnt GR3 on Sony DVD-R, and for some reason, it doesn't wont to boot.

reefbreak could be right, sony DVD-R are good quality disks, but its not only about the brand, some ps2's will work fine with a certain brand while others wont, this depends on the laser in your ps2, try another dvd and see if it makes a difference, however if this doesnt help, and if your chip is a clone, then that could be the issue, the game you are trying to backup is new, and the chip is a clone so it might not be able to function correctly with the new games due to not having all the features of the original chip, when did you buy the console?

That means your left with two things in the equation: DVD-R or the chip.
I think you should try different media and see if it makes a difference, if you have a windows cleaner put it on a q-tip and clean the laser, or use a small amount of water on the q-tip if you dont have a windows cleaner, you must do this, it isnt hard to open the drive, just remove the 2-4 screens from the top of the drive, and lift the case, and its been exposed, clean it, and shut it back up again. If this doesnt work, then its possibly got something to do with having a clone chip.

Ok, try to open up the ps2, and clean the laser eye, by using a drop of water on a q-tip(cotton buds/swabs). Then use the dry side o dry it off, this is probably the last thing i can come to, does the disk work on your friends ps2? because if it does, then its definitely got something to do with your ps2.
