I have read a couple of threads here regarding downgrading 2.5/2.6 to 1.5 and I have a basic idea on what to do. However I am still a little confused over a few things because I have read different answers from different threads.

I am planning on buying a white PSP that comes with 2.5 out-of-the-box that, hopefully, won't have a TA-082 mobo. These are my questions:

a) Does the PSP have to be upgraded to 2.5/2.6 from an older fw version (i.e. it was bought and came with 2.0 - 2.49 [or whatever] on it) before I am able to downgrade it to 1.5?

if not, then

b) Can I downgrade a 2.5/2.6 directly (meaning out-of-the-box) to 1.5 without having to do anything else besides have an unpatched GTA:LC and eLoader?

otherwise

c) Is it a bad idea to buy a PSP 2.5/2.6 out-of-the-box, and I should instead look for one that has fw less than 2.5?

Thank you

if you can get 1.5 good, if not get 2.0.

Downgrade the 2.0 with MPH

If you really want to get the 2.0 get it then upgrade it to 2.6

Then with the 2.6 downgrade to 1.5, then you wont have a factory 2.6!

Then you have 1.5

If you buy 2.6 and it is factory then you may risk it. I have had a friend downgrade 2.6.

hope this helps.

A bit of confusion on this one from what Ive read. Some people say they have downgraded a factory 2.5 / 2.6 whereas others say you cant.
I personally have only downgraded PSPs that were originally on fw less than 2.5 though.
If you can check the PSP before you buy it then you can just check the code on the motherboard beforehand. According to the diagrams on the Easy Downgrader the downgrade will not work if the motherboard is marked with 'IC3001' just inside the UMD drive.
I can only presume therefore that all other PSPs will downgrade successfully.......

the downgrade has nothing to do with factory FW, it is only determined by whether or not you have ta-082 mobo

if you get a 2.5 factory psp and it is not ta-082 then you will be fine

1.52>2.0>1.5>3.40 OE-A>3.71 M33-4
3.60>4.01 M33-2

Have you tested this theory to be true? Im not trying to challenge you, just wondering if you have done this first hand becuz I know I'm going to have to downgrade one sooner or later.

Thank you for your responses.

iPirate, I am assuming on the 3rd line of your reply that you meant "get the 2.5" instead of "2.0", am I right?

Is there a way to tell if the PSP has a TA-082 mobo before opening the box? (Like a serial number or something on the label outside the box?)

It really makes no difference if you get a 2.0, 2.5 or a 2.6 m8 !
Any of them can be downloaded. A 2.0 is probably the safer one to get because they ALL can be downgraded whereas the others you need to check the motherboard checked first, although Ive never seen one that cant be downgraded as yet and Ive downgraded 5 PSPs that were 2.6fw....

Why did you go from 1.5 to 2.0 and then back to 1.5 ? Seems pointless...

From all the reading I did, factory 2.5 and 2.6 are fine as long as its not the 82 mobo.

And to spot those, you look for the #'s on the pcb in the corner of the umd slot.
Also, theres a lil eboot you can run by that guy 0okm or such that you run through eloader and will confirm if you have old hardware or new-82 hardware.
I successfully downgraded my coworkers psp with nothing but my psp.
I had to swap the mem stick a bunch of times in IRshell to get the wifi file xfer, but now hes all set.
