Is that the latest version out? Is this the best program to use to convert avi/mpeg and other files and then later use the same program to burn to a DVD? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes , you can do thay with Nero, however I would NOT recommend any version after 7.0.8.2 which you can d/l from here
