Power Chip for PSP?

I just bought a defective PSP(around 100usd) online whose owner told me that its "power chip" that is broken and can be fixed at around 42bucks. When I went to a well known shop that repairs game consoles here in the philippines, the technician told me that it really was a power chip that was broken but is hard to replace since there are no available spare parts. What he recommended was to replace the board itself since its easier and faster(costs at around usd123), but he also doesnt have a spare part.
My question is, is there really a power chip? My defective psp wont turn on and its just the orange led that I can see. I guess its charging but it wont turn on. Im pretty sure that its not the LCD. Can anyone help me please?

btw, a repair site was quick enough to point me into this spare part:
could this be the part the technician was talking about?

yes. I am actually now thinking of sending the psp halfway across the globe just to get it fixed. but this time i wanted to be sure.
my other option is for me to buy a new motherboard.

Or you could put it back on ebay and then buy a working one.

just replace that mobo, easier.
Dont buy broken psp's if you cant fix em.

lolz, dude why didnt u just buy a new psp. if u know it is defective, then why. it's not worth it man. i can get a used psp around my neighborhood for like 150 dollars. broken psp doesnt even worth a penny if u ask me.

You can buy them on ebay. I payed $2 for the part and came to $7 with shipping. It came from Hong Kong but it only took a week and a half.(to the USA)And if you do buy one dont worry if the board is blue(japan usually) or green(USA,eUR usually.) becuase it doesnt matter.

the power switch in one of the above pics is not what u need. I made a homebrew usb charger and reversed the polarity on it(this killed the "power chip" which is an internal regulator with built in fuse)
you cannot replace this part alone because you can only buy it from 1000+ pices from the manufacturer.
your best choice is to buy a mobo off ebay for bout $80 USD and do the repair yourself.
If you cant i am interested in buying used and brokem psp's

thank you guys for all the reply. I bought the defective PSP trusting the seller it still can be fixed. Im currently bidding for a a motherboard over at ebay, but still if I end up spending more, definitely I have to sell my psp.

thank you so much. at least now its clear to me. the technician here is actually waiting for a defective motherboard from which he can just "pull-out" the internal regulator. One of his staff mentioned to me that this will be very hard to fix(but still it can be done).

i dont think the tech will bother removing the chip and replacing it. he will just replace the whole thing (the chip is surface mounted and you need a special soldering iron to remove it, most techs dont have it!) thats why its so much! the regulator shud be bout $5 if you can get it by itself. (but you cant unless u order 1000+)

yes the whole mother board its anywere from $80-120
and to pm someone click on the "my account" buton at the top of the page, it says "afterdawn.com, home, news, guides, software, glossary, forums, *my acount* ,.......
theres a subcategory on almost all of the tabs that sat private masseage on them. but also in "my account" is says "so far you have recived XXX private messages. click there and then click on compose and type the users name. ie "Stuckonit" (exactly as shown on the forum!!!)

not solved actually, but at least now I know whats the exact problem. Its an internal regulator with built-in fuse as stuckonit mentioned. Im now searching ebay for a motherboard.
