I have searched PSP-Hacks and here for this one and whle I can find new backgrounds, I can't seem to find a tutorial on how to go about changing them. I have tried and my icon backgrond look terrible and distorted but the sound works. Can anyone please help me with this?
ALSO, I have attempted many times to get 44 working but still having no luck loading any games. The settings are as stated in the threads posted here.

You can use somethin like psp-brew or pbp-unpacker to change the icons, background, etc,. I prefer psp-brew because of its ease of use. Are you sure that you got .44 that comes pre packaged with the firmware files. How big was the .44 download? At http://www.psp-hacks.com they have a version that comes bone stock with no custom sounds, icons, backgrounds, gameboots, or anything.

@ vwguy:
Nope. That's not the reason. I just looked at your pic. It's the incorrect resolution. It has to be 144 x 80.
You've got 150 x 100 or something like that.
In paint, go to Image>attributes - make Width 144 and Heigh 80.
Good luck.
Btw, that's the icon0 you're trying to change, right? Not the pic1, which is 480 x 272...???

The Punisher image is a background replacement for 1.5 since it doesn't use themes. It don't want that for my icon. When I power up the psp and launch Devhook, it looks like complete crap, however once devhook has launched and I am in 2.0 +, the icon and image look fine, but the punisher background is replaced with the PSP-Hacks wallpaper.

No one has an answer for this? Did I find a bug or am I just retarded? The icon and background are jacked up when launching from 1.5 but in the emulated 2.6, it looks fine. The url above has the files in a rar.
For that matter the default icons for the psp hack install 44 are messed up too when I am in 1.5 firmware.

It looks bad because it is something to do with how the icon looks when viewed over a dark bmp background that you have flashed in 1.5, I read that it comes out all weird looking and b/w. I had the same problem but when you see it on a 2.XX background with a proper jpg background it looks normal.
Is your devhook icon the one that flashes like a gif? You should find a release with the hook background beacause it is sick, or get Tashiung's background which is also awesome.
And the resoultion of a flashed background in 1.5 should be 300x170, 24 colour bmp, not more than 50kb. Within an EBOOT, a PIC1 is also 300x170, and the ICON0 should be 144x80. Hope that helps.
USA Factory 1.5 > 2.71 SE-C > 3.03 OE-C, 4GB Sandisk + 1GB Sandisk, D-Pad Mod, SNES 9x_TYL 0.4.2, DGEN 1.70, NesterJ 1.11, DDR Mix V.1, PSP Revolution v.03 Anime, currently playing - Tony Hawk's Project 8, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, WSC 2007

If I am correct here, 1.5 does not have THEMES as an option adn the only way to change the background is to edit the actual stock backgrounds. The 2.xx firmware uses jpegs for the background. through Themes right? Here is my quesion now then,
How can I save settings so that when I run Devhook it uses MY theme and Not the one loaded with PSP-Hacks?

Incorrect. Sony has always used bitmap images for the stock wallpapers.
If you wanna change the backgrounds for your games and what not, use PBP Unpacker. Look for ICON0 and PIC1.
