ok ive asked about this before, but the problem is about why my ps2 makes loading noises everytime it plays ps2 backups.I have installed swap magic pro 2006 kit and ive reinstalled it and it does the same thing,i use swap magic 3.6 , the backups run fine but the sound bothers me as i feel like its gonna break or something.it makes hard loading reading noises, and in about 10 min it will be warm the ps2 will warm up but not like its gonna explode.I use Sony DVD-R 16x Discs and gonna change to verbatims as they look like they might help, like be more carmer. My friend also has a slim but doesnt have any modding onto it and he says its normal and his ps2 does the noise as well but when i came over it didnt do it so often.I have done a thread before but didnt get to catch up to it so i started a new one,i was told to reinstall it,ive tried but i dont think thats the problem? i probably think its the media as i dont really know? so can someone give me any suggestions.i dont wanna reinstall it again.if this still happens im thinking of saving up for $80 so i can get a matrix modchip done on my ps2.

it could be the 16X discs, those are not very good for game back ups for most people. Try a quality 8X DVD-R and see if that helps. I know my old V7 with fliptop is a bit load too, makes weird noises when loading a disc, but after several years you realize it is not hurting anything, it was just the new fliptop that was making the noise.
If you have the chance i would save the money and get the Matrix Infinity chip. They are really good. Those and DMS4 Pro.
YOu will love it and will have none of the problems that people using swap magic do. Like screen cut off on games from other regions, rebuilding games, swapping discs and other stuff.

what i mean is that the ps2 plays the disc fine but keeps reading the disc throughtout the whole game.like it trys to read the disc and only rarely reads when at the menu or pause.it just makes the loading/reading sound at the loading screen when i put the game on and while im playing the game,it just doesnt do that at the game menu? i still need some help? i dont wanna find out that the next day my ps2 or my laser blows up, i dont know?

It's probably a constant disc access game like San Andreas or Need for Speed Most Wanted. Is it just reading the disc, or is it making clicking sounds, like the laser's having trouble reading the disc?

like when i play urbs sims in the city backup, it doesnt warm up easily it stays cool and it makes the reading noise less often rather than playing backup games such as Smackdown Vs Raw,Rugby 2006,Fight Night Round 3,NFL Street 2 or The Godfather or BIA:Earned in Blood? urbs is the only game that the ps2 does less often reading noise. Its like the Laser keeps trying to read it and keeps clicking.

sorry double posted but i dont know how to edit my post?

Try cleaning the laser with a Q tip and rubbing alcohol.

74. Q. I turn on my PS2, the disc spins and makes a "clicking" sound. It says "disk read error" in my browser, what do I do?
A. This could be a sign your laser is dirty or scratched. Clean it with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol if you think it might be dirty, also be sure to check it for scratches. Fat PS2 v.1-11: http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Guides/ps2diy/ Consult the links listed earlier in this thread for info. This could also be a sign your game is dirty or scratched. You can clean it with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth or tissue. Only apply a couple drops of rubbing alcohol on the disc, 4 or so evenly spaced. You may want to use an eye dropper for this. Rub it with a lint free cloth or tissue in a non circular pattern until it's dry. Your other option is to buff out the surface scratches with on the disc with a "Game Doctor." I came across a $20 Memorex cleaning device at Wal-Mart which basically does the same thing. It worked wonders for my scratched Breaker Pro disc. The Game Doctor will set you back around $40. If the scratches are too deep, this won't make any difference. If you get the "clicking" sound with a backup, all these same things apply. Also MAKE SURE that your not using cheap media. Again check the links posted earlier in this FAQ. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341

If you don't know what a Q-tip is check on google. No that won't hurt the PS2 laser, it's the best way to clean it. Using the lens cleaners can scratch the lens and make it worse.

Good God! If brains/common sense were food, you'd be starving mate!

A Q-Tip is a cotton bud. You dip one end in the alcohol based cleaner, making sure its not dripping wet, then rub lightly on the lens (perhaps in a clockwise direction), and use the dry end to dry the alcohol off.

No, it needs to be alcohol based to get rid of the muck the laser collects. Use anything else at your own risk, as we dont want you coming back saying you've melted the laser with some acidic sh*t!

And, btw; that sig is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too big. I suggest you read the rules on sigs & edit it before a Mod does!

Rubbing Alcohol man. Isopropyl rubbing alcohol. The kind that can be fatal if you drink it, that you keep around in the medicine cabinent for the occasional usage. Seriously, if you don't know what Q-tips and rubbing alcohol are, do some reading.

I knew you weren't saying that, I was simply looking at my post through a neutral oberver's vantage point, and it could easily be interpreted as me being smart. That wasn't the intent, I find when you try to be really nice and go out of your way to not hurt people's feelings, sometimes the point doesn't get across. Sometimes a little kick in the you know what can get people in gear.

How loud is the clicking sound? If it's loud and repetitive, usually that means the laser is trying to read something but can't. I've only experienced this when a game was scratched or faulty, and it got stuck somewhere. I think maybe you're just over obsessing. All your games run okay, correct?

there are a couple of potential problems.

1. the lens is dirty

2. the laser needs to be re-calibrated or replaced

3. the weather, as crazy as this sounds (it happened to me) was so cold it dried up the lubrication in the ps2 and screwed up the mechanism.

i suggest you go to a repair shop and get it checked out ;)

I bet it's the magic key that goes under the piece that "holds" the game down. I can't remember if it's A,B or C but it's not the one that goes over the power hole, nor the one that closes the case lid. The one you have to push the metal piece all the way to the right and stick the key in to block it. Try fixing that and see if it still "clicks"

well i dont use magic keys i use slim tool kit 2006,tool B and A, the sound isnt loud but when you turn off the the volume or make it medium you can hear the ps2 trying to read the disc, but all my backups and originals play fine.for some games the ps2 keeps clicking every sec and some it just does it every 4 sec.Example for Smackdown Vs Raw backup when i put the disc in and play it starts clicking and making that reading sound, until it gets to the menu its quiets, when i start watching cutscenes or loading it does the reading clicking sound about every 1-2 sec thought the scene.when i play a makes the noise every sec and reads hard but the game plays fine, sometimes the ps2 warms up and sometimes it warms up a little or stays cool when i play, ive also played dyansty warriors 5 and it makes and the ps2 does the noise at reading the disc and when im at the menu,it doesnt do any noise until i play the game it does the noise about every 2-4 sec. .since installed the slim tool it started making that noise, well i think so.Ill try to reinstall the tool again and see if that will fix anything.thanks for the advice guys
