If you're on 2.6 and can't get your hands on an unpatched GTA UMD then no you can't downgrade. You could try renting the game from somewhere.

If you can trade your 2.6 for a 2.00 then I would def recommend that as the downgrader for 2.00 is much more reliable. With 2.01 you would have to update to 2.5 or 2.6 to be able to downgrade, so not any better off.
