Is a modem considered a router? I am not sure, thus I do not know whether or not I need to port forward. Also, what happens if I am not using a router and I do the port forwarding? I'm just using a dsl Siemens Speedstream 4100 modem to access the broadband internet. I'm just wondering as to whether it is safe or not to port forward even if you don't have a router (maybe it's built in). Would that cause any problems?

How do I edit my message and repost it? Or can you not do that? I was trying to, but could not find it other than the Edit Title. So sorry if this is considered spam. In any case, I was also wondering, aside from the IP address the modem/router gives, if I change to a static IP address, can I easily change back to a dynamic? I am using a dynamic IP and want to change it to static for port forwarding, but am worried I won't be able to change back to dynamic, or if so, not easily. Thanks.
