I had a 1.5 PSP and was using Devhook to play game iso's but got bought some new games that didn't load on my old firmware so i upgraded to 2.71. But i still can't play these new UMD's - i just don't get a UMD icon in my game menu. I have never played a real UMD on my PSP - am i missing something really stupid or does the fact I had devhook installed somehow prevent me from loading a normal UMD?

you didnt need to upgrade you could of just used devhook 0.44 to play them :( as for them not playing i dunno

Make sure you have done the correct settings for dev hook.

yeah i know i could have used dev hook but was just found it was too problematic - some games working some of the time. just thought i would upgrade and buy some games to get good use out of my psp. so i am not even using dev hook at all any more - all i want to do is load retail umd's i have bought but my psp won't recognise them. they spin and whur but no umd icon in game menu. do you think i could have a problem with my umd laser reading thing?

you could try cleaning it with a cotton bud the laser that is

open the back up where you slot the umd and you should see the laser,try rubbing that gently with the cotton bud.

Maybe your umd's are kind of dirty,try cleaning them with a soft cotton bud.

my umd's are definately not dirty i have only just bought them. i guess it must be the umd laser reader. i have tried the cotton bud thing with no sucess. I understand you can buy replacement laser readers - anyone with any experienec of this? easy to do it yourself?
