I've made a few home dvd's with my digital camera .avi movie clips using Nero 7 but now, suddenly, it won't import .avi movie clips into a 'make dvd'. It tells me they are audio files and opens the timeline and will play them as audio files - no video!
I uninstalled and reinstalled but no difference.
So maybe Nero leaves something behind that is the cause of the problem. Hence it'd be good if I knew how to remove all traces of Nero.
I know it leaves things behind alright because it picked up the same serial number without asking me when I reinstalled it.
The burner still works okay. Showtime will play these same video clips that the dvd maker (that's Nero vision I think, isn't it) gets screwed up.
Has any genius out there got any idea what's going on?
Well, I did all that. Went back from Nero 7 to Nero 6, did all that.
Situation: exactly the same. Showtime plays things okay. Vision Express claims to be unable to import them into a dvd it is making.
I haven't fought my way round to the bit where you import into a list of available files yet but I reckon when I get there it'll be the same: it will import as audio only. This is weird.
Did you have Nero 6 on your comp before? You will need to run the clean tool for that version too. Uninstall your Nero and run both clean tools for 6 and 7. I suggest only installing Nero version 7.0.8.2 which you can get from FILE HIPPO website. Install that version and enter your cdkey.
Nope, I only had 7 on there. Where do I find the cleaner for 7? I tried changing the '6' to a '7' in the URL where I got the cleaner for 6 but it just goes back to that same page... dunno why.
I'm using windvd now to try get the job done. I don't know how it is going to go.. it seems to be doing the job but it took forever to encode just 15minutes of movie.
I'm looking around for an .avi to dvd encoder to maybe hasten the process.
If it doesn't work I'll try TMPGEnc dvd and if that doesn't work....
there's heaps of help here on afterdawn. too much. Lots of it outdated in this fast moving field or not relevant because it is aiming for technical fine tuning I don't need.... stuff like that...
I just want the simplest way and up 'till now that's been Nero.
Well, thanks for your thoughts, degenX, but it's made things worse, possibly, inasmuch as now trying to import an .avi file into my Nero project hangs Nero totally. I can still use the machine and task manager and kill the process though, which is what I've had to do, twice now.
I uninstalled my 6. Ran the clean. Downloaded the 7 you've pointed me to. Installed it, tested and got a failure. Uninstalled and ran clean 7.
Installed again. Tested again. Failure.
Clean doesn't clean everything - both times it threw up a serial number on the first screen, so it kept a memory of that. Which is strange. Because we get warned, don't we, to make a note of the serial number...
I can see another reinstall of WinXP coming along....
What i really want to do and have been promising myself for years, is to move to Unix (Ultrix or whatever, that is). How would I go with these sort of programmes if I did that? All the video editing stuff? DVD Decrypter, TMPG, DVD Shrink, Nero or some other.... whatever?
