i need help with the godfather for pc

i got the godfather for pc and i was wandering as to why on the game i go to options to settup pc contorls so i can use my pc usb controller which is like a recoil game pad and it is simular to the ps2 game controller and when i try to set it up i dont know how to set it up i dont know how to get options to allow me to set up the controler the way id like to set up it gives me choices of mouse keyboard and gamepad but i click on use gamepad and nothing happens it just shows my gamepad and calibarate or something like that and i click on where you can change your settings to try to program the game to use your gamepad to move and stuff and nothing at all happens
