I keep trying to burn some dvds off on my hard drive. About 2 out of 5 will fail for no reason I can see. I have tried rebooting, closing and opening and even reinstalling Nero and it still won't burn. It usually errors about 20 minutes into the burn and it is getting very expensive. Here is the log, using DVD+R blank dics:

Hi Fallen79
Here's some suggestions:
Quote:
CdRomPeripheral : HP DVD Writer 640b atapi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off
Turn DMA back on - here's a guide:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
Quote:
Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 640b> Version: E152
May need a firmware update - to check and see if you do follow this link from HP to find the correct one:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c...

Your discs are fully recognized but best to make sure firmware is up to date.

Try 4x speed - if okay then go no higher than 8x.

Roxio doesn't always play well w/ Nero. You can uninstall and run hte clean tool.
For Roxio 4 & 5:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml
For Roxio 6:
http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/EE6000061
Quote:
Nero Version: 6.6.0.13
Nero can use an update to - use this one 6.6.0.18:
Package 1
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

Package 2 (recode & vision)
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Try those and let us know how it goes - good, bad or otherwise.

Hello.

There are several problems.

File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=8.0.0.212 , size=2560 bytes, created 5/19/2006 4:16:24 PM

This is a Roxio driver that cxan conflict with Nero. If you have any Roxio software installed, uninstall it and run the Roxio zapper.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

I'd also download and run the Nero Driver Clean Tool as well:

http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Driver_CleanTool_and_RegistryChecke...

The DMA is off on your burner. To reset it:

Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
Click the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button.
Click the "+" beside IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to expand.
Right click on the IDE Secondary Channel and select Uninstall.
Now back in Device Manager, click on the "+" beside DVD/CD_ROM Drives to expand.
Right click on the name of the DVD burner and select Uninstall.
Restart the system. This should reset everything.

Guide in case you get lost: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

Your trying to burn too fast at 16X. Your burn speed probably shouldn't exceed half the rated speed of the media for a consistent quality burn. Many limit their speed to 4X.

There's a newer version of Nero 6 available, version 6.6.0.18, available here:

http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Don't upgrade to the newest version at the Nero site. It has bugs.

I'm not sure about your burner firmware. Try the above fixes and see if that solves your problem. If not, we'll check the firmware.
