1)Im cheap, and shelling out 30 bucks for the 3.6/fliptop combo was enough for my tastes

2)Slimeline plus external HDD = no fun imo

3)I have 250 TYG0'3s sitting in my room, just begging to be used

4)Im cheap

LOL@stang :D

I wouldn't say I'm cheap, but just that I don't see the point in paying out more money for something that I wouldn't use the extra features of anyway..

A modded xbox or a stock PS3/X360 has many more uses than a modded PS2 IMO.. so will put my hard earned money towards one of those instead.

Honestly, a modded first gen Xbox has a lot more to offer than a 360. In terms of raw horsepower, no. In terms of features, it's not even close. XBMC, emulators for every system up to the PSX, games right off the HD, free netplay service in X-link Kai, an IRC client in Avalaunch, several hacked dashboards which offer PC-Like features and variety, the list goes on. A modded Xbox is more than a game system, it's a way of life. At least that's what I tell myself when I'm home Friday night playing it.

Yeah, that's what i'm on about.. i'd much rather have a modded xbox for all the features you get on it.. i'm not knocking a modded ps2, but all i'd use it for is that same things I do with swap magic anyway, lol.
I like my cat.. but man he cost me the price of a modded xbox to get treated at the vets :( so gotta start saving again.. and then I'll have to mak the tough decision between modded xbox or stock PS3.. but will prob go with the xbox and wait for a ps3 mod to come out maybe :)

Hey you guys in the UK, what're some reputable mod sites over there? Ghostfitters looks very good, at least at a glance, only carry good chips, and good selection of premods. I'm looking to add some UK sites to my modchip FAQ or my PS2 FAQ.

Yeah I'd be interested to know of some more places too... so that I can pass on some business to them when people ask about modchips/installation/fixing etc

I have been using swap magic since i first came into the modding scene (nearly 2 years now), it was cheap at the time to buy swap magic, but now that i have the cash for it i am going to invest in a pre modded console because am getting very tired of swapping all those discs when i want to play and i have no way to install the modchip myself. i know how modchips are much easier to use because i used to have one in my old PS1 so i can't wait to get a mod chip! no more swapping, and also no more rebuilding too! another reason to buy a modcip is disc swapping with games that have 2 discs, that's another reason for me to get a modchip!

One of my best friends started out with Swap Magic, he got real tired of swapping. Upgraded to an MI, plays it around the clock. Thanks to Davbere and Team Matrix, our lives just got easier.

instead of getting a premodded console why dont u just mod the one u have. i mean ps3 is in the corner and u would want wasting ur money would yea.believe it would be so much worth it. just get a MI.and someone here can hook u up with an installer.

about uk installers. ghost2fitters are actually one of the few and best in uk. they are more individuals. i dont think u would find so many site around in UK. but u can still search.

The reason i am doing it this way is because my old slim may be on the way out and it would seem silly to mod this console if it dies later on, it's expensive to send my console out to them and i can just sell my old console to get some money back. i am getting my pre mod from ghost2fitters as i heard good word from them and those see thru lights casing look sweet. and yes i am getting a MI mod chip.

I love my MI, one of the more reliable things in my life, I think you'll feel the same way. It seems like the MI has been making a push at AD lately, which is terrific. It's the most stable, reliable modchip on the market, followed closely by the Crystal Chip 1.1.

I think I agree with Tokijin.

I haven't tried it yet, but I've been researching the DMS4 PRO SE ($53.49) or the DMS4 PRO SE Lite ($43.49), here: http://www.xbox-modchips.com/dms4-pro-ps2.htm

It plugs in (no soldering) and it is self booting (no disk swapping).

It does say "YOU NEED TO FLASH YOUR MODCHIP, THEY DO NOT COME FLASHED!" But the flash software is supposed to be a free DL.

Not sure where you read the DMS 4 Pro SE is solderless, but that's not true.
Quote:
- Reduced wire Count:
17 wires for v1-v7 PAL/USA or 18 wires for v1-v7 Japan/Asian
18 wires for v9-v14 USA and PAL (19 with DVD+/-RW support / T wire) or 19 wires for v8,9 and 10 Japan/Asian (20 with DVD+/-RW support / T wire)
http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2#46

The DMS 4 EZI Pro is solderless, but a giant wad of crap. It's $30 more than solder chips, and most people butcher the install and their PS2 in the process. Modchips are meant to be soldered in. The DMS 4 EZI Pro works best... when it's soldered. Stay far, far away from solderless chips, you'll thank me when your PS2 still works. If you want to go with the DMS 4 Pro SE, that's fine, it's a very good chip. It has a ton of features into ToxicOS, and can be buggy at times. Nothing major, but if you want stable, easy to use chips, the MI and CC are terrific.

Yeah the Matrix is a wonderful chip - easy to install and 100% reliable - can't speak highly enough of it. The DMS4 Pro, on the other hand, is temperamental and was a pain in the ass to install - I had to pull my v9 PS2 apart about 6 times before it worked propely.

Swap Magic:
+ Easy to install
+ Cheaper than chips
+ Will not void your guarantee!
+ Can't cause damage to the laser (?)

- Gotta do the swapping all the time between games
- Can cause PAL / NTSC (forced mode) to move up the screen a bit. (can be fixed by buying a good RGB cable)
- Can't play PSX backups (?)

but there's sure more stuff to + and - with Swap Magic, and there's also + and - with modchips. I got swap magic because
1. I have my guarantee left on my brand new ps2
2. If I buy a chip (I cannot install it myself), that would be around 30-40$ and then if someone installs it for me, it will cost another 40-50$... so I earned around 2 more swap magic discs etc.

ofc I think Chips are better (got a chipped Xbox) but I just saw a better way of playing backups without wasting all of my cash :S (I'm a poor student :P)

Again it comes down to user preference. I prefer modchips, some of you prefer Swap Magic, and we needn't justify our reasons. What I detest is posts like the one a couple pages back where someone was talking down to people who have one or other, saying "your product sucks, mine's great." That type of ignorance is uncalled for and has no place in the forums.

hi guys. i m tired of swap magic and wwould want a chip. the thiong is.

A. Matrix Infinity (Green Dot), DMS 4 Pro SE, or the Crystal Chip 1.1.
