Eh? That shouldn't make any difference. If it did, then it certainly wouldnt play on the PS2.

Just use DVDecrypter to make the iso & burn it to a DVD

Never heard of that before, Like ace1uk said, I cant imagine that playing on the ps2. Tell us exactly what happens when you try to read with DVD Decrypter.

really if they do that and the originals work then it should be able to be backed up as well, use DVD Decrypter and rip it into a iso and burn it into a DVD-R or DVD+R if your burner and ps2 supports DVD+R it.I prefer Verbatim or Sony but Verbatims are better, use 8x or 4x and burn at half speed.I have a few backups that i burned by renting games out, they all use AzuroDisc guard and DVD Decrypter can still rip it,ive only had one game that didnt come with a anti piracy thing on the disc.

Actually, if you wanna be technical, copying ANY game, whether you own it or not, is illegal.

There's been many successful prosecutions recently in Australia, Europe & the US for such activity.

dazila, several high courts have come to the agreement that with the advent of digital media, such as CD or DVD, there is no longer a requirement for anyone to 'backup' any software or games, since digital media is far more robust than the old storage formats, such as floppy disc & tape that the 'backing up of software' loop-hole was based on.

And copyright laws in most continents have recently been changed to incorporate this fact, hence the reason there've been those recent prosecutions I mentioned in my previous post.

You can believe unofficial public 'encyclopedias' if you wish, but I'd prefer to believe the official law books & statutes, which I think you should read - it'll broaden your knowledge if nothing else.

And just to back up the above...
Quote:
Am I legally entitled to make a backup of my original software?

The rules regarding back up copies apply to software; they do not apply to other copyrights such as film and sound recordings. Since computer games comprise of a number of such rights, the answer so far as computer games is concerned is that making a back up copy is not a permitted act under copyright law.

So far as copyright in software is concerned the law provides that the lawful user may make a backup "where it is necessary for him to have for the purposes of his lawful use". This clause dates back to the time of the 16-bit machines when, because of the volatility of floppy discs and problems with software carried on tape cassettes, back up copies were thought necessary. Therefore, it is ELSPA?s view that it is no longer necessary for users to create backups of their software. This view is underlined in the judgment in the case relating to the illegal chipping of PSX consoles referred to below. *

Pirate web sites with disclaimers stating "you are legally entitled to make one backup copy..." etc. misrepresent the legal position. In the words of Mr Justice Jacob in the above case "Back ups are not necessary at all".

Moreover, offering commercially to provide back up copies for users, or discs with illicit games purportedly for the consumer to sample, are very likely to be infringing acts and may also lead to the commission of criminal offences carrying a penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment.

* Sony Computer Entertainment and Paul Owen and others.

Whether the games you're copying are rentals or not has absolutely no bearing on the copying process so in the future don't include information like that. You can see exactly where it gets you ;)
