I love the BenQ 1655! I guess the newer burner should be good, too!

The 1670 is a lot different from the 1650,1655 and 1640 which use Philips chipset and which explains their top quality. But the 1670 is same as the DQ60 and use the Panasonic which is a crapy chipset. It's performance and results are of no match with those 1640,1650 and 1655.The difference in chipset really means a great difference in both performance and results. If you want a very good and cheap burner you can go with the 1650,if you want one which is lightscribe, the 1655 it is.Both are almost the same and the only difference is the lightscribe capability. Here in AD,there's a lot of members who use Benq drives, mostly the 1650 and all have very good results. Some of the more experienced members even recommend this drive.

Here'a a link where you'll find some reviews and other stuffs about the 1650,

You won't be disappointed with the 1650/1655 :)

geeeee all I did was go on the BenQ website........I thought that the newer dirve would have improvements. I guess I was wrong.

I did not go anywhere else to find out that that the 1670 uses the panasonic and that the 1640,1650&1655 use the Philips chipset.I just got it here in AD where some highly experienced members who have great experience in burning drives were talking about that. But i'll try to find where exactly i got that and i'll send you a link.I know that not everything can be trusted but about what have been said by these members, these are definitely the the ones to be trusted.

I'll post the link as soon as i get it.

Here's a link where it says that the 1670 uses panasonic chipset and even those there know that it doesn't match the performance of the 16401650,1655.

I'm a bit busy right now but i will send you another link where i found out about that in AD itself.Just give me some time because actually there's a lot to read and to look everywhere, can't remember exactly where i saw that, but it's definitely from a very good source.

Here's the link i was telling you about.Read Kivory's first post about the 1670 and the DQ60 which are similar to each other and so completely different from the others(1640,1650&1655).I guess you've already heard about Kivory666 or by his another name DocTy,he's among those who are the most extremely experienced on benq burners mostly on 1640 and 1650.His results and successes on every burn are always flawless. This guy is what should be taken as reference in terms of medias and burners. He knows about what he talks.

Definitely, the 1670 is the burner to forget, get the real Benq, don't get misleaded by new stuffs and their additional features(like ram,if you'll hardly use it),the 1650/1655 is the best you can get in terms of quality and price.

I have 1640's,1655's and the 1670's. I agree I would get the 1640(if you can find one) 1650 or 1655 simply for the reason that you will be able to get all the options in Q-suite the 1670 will not do scans. As far as burn quality the 1670's have been every bit as good as my 1640's and 1655's.I will say that I got the 1670's(reboxed I/O Magics)for $15.00 that is the only reason I bought them.

I agree with those above who recommend the 1640, 1650, or 1655, Stay away from the DQ60 and 1670. You can find out what chipset certain drive models have by going here http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDname=&Submit=Search&cd... and typing in the drive make. It will then list the models and their specs. The pioneer 111 BTW has a NEC chipset and is not a rebadged benq. Personally I would go with a benq 1650 over a pioneer 111.
