i have a problem ive been upgrading my otha com whch s a p3 933mhz with 256mb sd pc133 ram but i tried to add a 9200 se installed the drivers and tried to change the resouliton but couldnt change i tried a game the com just restarted but when i ran word and otha simple things it didnt crash does any one know whats wrong the power supply is 150w it has an agp 4x slot

To be fair that PSU is pretty damn small, even for a 9200se. Assuming you've tried all theobvious, new software, latest drivers and all that, that's the first thing I'd look at. Especially since the unit is old it probably now puts out a lot less than 150W, if the system simply restarts it means a component has momentarily been completely isolated from the system, which triggers a restart, hence the reset button, presing that isolates the CPU (and dumps the memory I think) briefly which causes the restart. Hence why if you build a PC and forget the power to the CPU, nothing happens because the PC is in effect permanently restarting. If you have an insufficient power supply, it may give enough watts to power the system up, but when you open a game, more power is needed, theunit can't provide it, so one component ends up getting insufficient power, and the system restarts.

That line says it all. First off most P3s have the wrong voltage for a modern 4x AGP. If that's the case consider yourself fortunate you have such a weak power supply! All 4x AGP's are not created equal equal. There are 2 power standards. I don't remember the voltages but I think 3V and 1.75V.
If that's the case, the only thing that saved your video card is low voltages. You could barely run the CPU, memory, Hard drive and video card on 150 Watts Add a DVD or CD and you've run out of power!. "We need more power Mr. Scott". Whatever you do make sure of the voltage for the AGP slot on your MB before you get another PS. Make sure the card has the same voltage, and then turn it on!

Thanks for the compliment kivory, that means a lot coming from someone like you. I was also going to mention the AGP voltage, but I presumed that if it worked at all and the GPU wasn't immediately toasted, it couldn't have been the wrong voltage slot.As for "why can't I change the resolution?" well I'll have to throw that question back. Why can't you? what happens if you do? I don't recall you making any reference to that in your first post, so we need a little more detail to solve that one I'm afraid.

You nay have a monitor that won't do 1024x768. A lot were made for years that will only go to 600x800 as that used to be the standard for office machines at one time. Do you have the driver software installed for the video card?

Nearly forgot,dazila I agree with theonejrs your monitor is probably maxed at 800x600.I once had a monitor that maxed out at 800x600 and tried to set it at 1024x768 what I got was all the colours of the rainbow flickering on my screen with twisted distorted icons in the background but what made it worse was the screen was split into 3 separate desktops so I had 3 of everything.Trying to get it back to 800x600 was a nightmare,so your lucky if your monitor wont let you set a resolution higher than it supports.

one more thing,
what else have you got connected to the psu?
How many drives,other cards,case fans etc?
Just did a quick calclation assuming you have 1 hard drive,1dvd/cd rom drive,1 floppy drive,your video card and 2 case fans.These alone will draw around 180 watts!!So the fact your pc is even booting is surprising to say the least!!

When that happens, just boot up in safe mode and change it to 640x480, apply it and re-boot. A quick right click and go to settings and set it again to another resolution.

I hate to ask stupid questions, but if I've learned one thing, you can't assume anything. Please don't gey mad at the question! That being said, did you click the apply button after moving the slider? Usually when you do it, it changes the resolution for 15 seconds and changes it back again if you don't answer yes!

Lol how many more compliments? :D (Blushes). Oh and by the way unless i use dual link DVI, this graphics card (yes, an X1900XT) can't output a signal the monitor doesn't support!

That's what I was expecting too.It's the first thing I did,but didn't make any difference!And just barely seeing safe mode displayed fuzzily 12 times over 3 desktops with all the colours of the rainbow scrolling down the screen on a 15 inch monitor and having 3 mouse pointers was horrendous!!

Sounds like what happened to my last Viewsonic, only that was permanent, and not my fault! Mine kind of looked lke an oscilloscope trace of a noisy signal, that bright green coloured line with dots flashing around... plus a nasty noise...Oh well, 3 year on-site warranty thankfully!

The monitor I have now(which was given to me by a friend)is a hitachi CM 769et manufactured in 2000.1800x1350@75hz is it's max so I guess it's not to bad.I'm running @1024x768.

1800x1350? Wow, that's a res I haven't seen very often! And at 75Hz that's damned good, highest this screen will do 75Hz at is 1600x1200.

its a "17" crt monitor that can max do 85 hertz and with the built in card i can use 1024x768 with the otha card wont change att all from 800x600

i have 1 drive which is a dvd burner power supply fan n the one on the processor nothing else the slots are empty, but wouldnt the motherboard use less power its self cause its micro atx not just full atx
