Basic Nero7 questions from a newbie

Hi all. I've been a N6 user for a few years and watcher of this website for a few months. I have enjoyed the discussions and helps.
I have some Qs about N7 that I think you will be able to set me straight on.
I recently bought 7.3.0.2b online, expecting to be able to use the serial for 7.0.8.2, but it is not accepted.
Does this mean I am stuck with 7.3.0.2 and can't use an earlier version?
The smart Start sometimes hangs with 99% CPU usage - requiring an end process followed by a reboot. This is an XP MCE SP2 machine. It does have some other burn software still installed, but definitely not running when trying to start Nero SmartStart.
Is the 99% usage and hang a "feature" of latest releases or is there something I can do with my configuration?
Is it possible to install a Nero Media Player with N7?

Thanks Gwendolin, I'm glad you know what version I have! It is indeed 7.2.3.2, but I did try 7.0.8.2 first.
Having read about the latest versions on this forum, I tried 7.0.8.2 first and went from N6>Uninstall>Clean>7.0.8.2 install, but the Nero7 Premium downloadable serial number was not accepted for 7.0.8.2. Then I panicked and did uninstall>Clean>7.2.3.2b install, and the serial number was accepted. So, I got what I paid for, the latest version, just can't go for the earlier version I want.

I cannot understand why not, try uninstalling 7.2.3.2 again , running the Nero7 clean tool and trying again for 7.0.8.2 from link provided.

So, after downloading Clean Tool and Version from the links and doing an Uninstall 7.2.3.2b>Clean>Install 7.0.8.2 and attempting to enter my Nero7 Premium downloadable serial number was not good enough. I got an error message.
Error box included message:
"An incorrect serial number was entered.
Carefully enter your serial number again"
So just to finish off...
The problem was confirmed when my new serial number was tried on another working 7.0.8.2 version. A message box with a banner
"Update your Product" was displayed. The message was:
"The serial number you have entered is for a newer version of the installed Nero product.
In order to activate your product you need to install the latest Nero update first"
My puchased serial starts with 1C80, but is not suitable for 7.0.8.2, but works fine for 7.2.3.2b.
I got the new seial number when I updated from a N6 OEM product, and when making the purchase the info provided on the website indicated the upgrade offer was for the current version. This was 7.2.3.2b at the time. I thought it still may have worked with older versions, but this appears not to be.

I cannot explain that one, once you have a legitimate serial number you should be able to go back to 7.0.8.2. All I can suggest is to go through the process again.

Hi,
Well, after help from Nero support - who have been excellent, I have some resolution, at least to 7.2.3.2 hanging at StartSmart. I didn't get 7.0.8.2 to accept my Premium download serial though.
The advice was to go beyond the CleanTool and manually delete directories and registry keys. This got rid of every Nero / Ahead reference. Then re-install.
Time will tell if I have any problems with the startup and applications.
I will post the advice from Nero support if anyone is interested, but because it has registry edits, don't attempt it for fun.

Well that surprises me that someone actually got a response from Nero, hope the info supplied assists you with your problem. It is simply ridiculous why you have to go to so much effort to run Nero prog.

Hi,
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised by the responses - Daily emails for 3 days, in return for my logs and screen dumps.
I just entered my original problem through VIP Support available via My Nero. Worked a treat.

Well the Nero StartSmart started hanging in 7.2.3.2b with 99% CPU usage again. So I deleted that directory and all its contents and replaced it with the Nero StartSmart directory and files from a 7.0.8.2 installation - It's working like a dream.

Definitely happier with the 7.0.8.2 version of StartSmart. this was the only module I substituted. The other applications are 7.2.3.2b baseline.
