Had this problem as well. Sounds like you need to rebuild the file. Because mine just went black when I booted it with Swap Magic. The trick to this pony is you need to boot Zoneloader. Boot Swap Magic, swap it for Zoneloader, then MLB 2k6. You can get Zoneloader here

Hope this works for you, it did for mine.

Are they 16x Sony discs? If the Media ID is the Sony Media ID, that could be the problem, my PS2 spits those out like rotten fish. Post the Media ID.
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm Huge List of Media ID's (Thanks to DogBomb): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/155431

Here's my media ID for my Sony 16x DVD+R's. My slimline ps2 plays them better than any other brand so far.

Doesn't matter. 5 backups isn't a large sample size. The media could definitely still be the cause. Aside from that, try rebuilding.
1. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949 With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515 With Expert (Gnie's new rebuilding tool):
Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool Download (Thanks to 3DLuis):
http://rapidshare.de/files/22775594/1.05.rar.html Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT From Paddymail:
Here's how to use it.. it might not work for all games though.
Open the program.
1. Select the Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins drop down list.
2. Select the iso you want to rebuild.
3. Click extract LBA.
4. Click extract file and wait for it to finish.
5. Click rebuild file and wait for it to finish.
6. Click rebuild LBA.
7. Burn the new iso with Nero or DVD Decrypter as usual.

@PS2Menace It may work okay for you, but 16x media is a mixed bag with PS2 backups. There's a ton of playback issues with it, that don't seem to be relegated to any one model PS2 or DVD manufacturer. 16x Verb's have caused people plenty of problems, along with cheap media. If you look around for 50 spindles of Sony's with an octogonal spacer on top, those will be Taiyo Yuden's. For the same price you pay for the Sony Media ID, you can get TY's.

True, but where I am locally, they don't have them. Trust me, I've searched high and low. No credit cards for my family, therefore online purchasing is out. I've backed up over 100 games to the 16x's and they've all worked perfectly. The other 200 games or so I have on Sony DVD+R 8x and they've all worked perfectly as well. Can't find 8x anymore locally, so I have to stick with 16x. Since they work fine for me, I'm happy.. and lucky. Thanks though.

That's cool. It's true 8x media is getting harder to find. I stocked up awhile back, but mostly it's 16x media around, I haven't found any Yuden000T03's where I am either, though plenty of TYG03. The couple PS2 backups I've burned to TYG03 work okay, but I still don't think I'd ever settle on 16x media for PS2 backups. And in general, it's not recommended anyway.

I wouldn't say it's bad, but I would try to find some 8x Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. Have you tried rebuilding at all?
