Wackiness with PAL and NTSC

Hi there,

I have a PAL Version 9 ps2, modded with a fliplid. I have a rip of an NTSC game. Swapmagic will not even attempt to boot the game in NTSC - however it works in PAL. The problem is that the screen seems to be offset to the top.

Anyone have any idea whats going on?

patch the game (read sticky) or buy a video converter... i'm guessing you have problem with the screen because you used the video force mode?

Sorry not sure what the video force mode is - unless you mean focibly selected PAL format?

Yep. That corrects the frequency but sometimes you get problem with image being clipped (what you have now)

I think so. It appears that either the image has either been moved or shrunk towards the top of the screen.

Try patching it with Adr Pathcer or PAL2NTSC with Y fix.

A. Use Adrenaline patcher if it's an EA game: http://www.megagames.com/ps2/ps2_utils_files.shtml#ADRenalin%20Patcher Note: I've been told this works for non EA games as well. The screen won't be perfectly centered, unless you have a modchip that forces video mode. Ok I gave it a try - no luck. Although everything seemed to be fine, the game will now not boot in either PAL or NTSC mode.

I think that instead of a PAL to NTSC patch, I need the other way around. Does anyone know about this?

Tried it - the game runs still, but is still up the top. Is there something special I have to do with that fix to drop it down?

I don't think there's a lot you can do, other than get a modchip. You've pretty much ruled out all the software solutions I know of. That's one of the drawbacks with Swap Magic, the forced video mode doesn't always work, and when it fails, the patchers are less than ideal solutions. Either you'll have to tough it out, or look into getting a modchip.
