I've heard Ares is good behind firewalls so I decided to give it a try. Is there any certain way I need to configure it?

Usually your firewall has something like "program controll" where you can alter permisisons for different programs.

I don't have control because my University controls it.

When all else fails...lie.

I don't use ARES, but if you can designate your own port, do this.

Figure out what port you want to use.
Set up ARES to use that port.
Call the 'versity student technical center.
Tell them that your dad needs you to be able to log into their home computer to help with with his business finances, and he needs it to be accessed via port XXXXX, the one you've chosen.
They'll create an exception for your local IP, and you'll be able to connect.

However, when you get caught (and you will, because you'll forget to turn on header encryption or you'll download gigabytes worth of data or you'll forget to turn on PG2 or use safepeer), they'll ban you from the network for good.

Other than that, no Ares for you.
