While we are on the subject of this mobo, my old mobo is an MSI K7N2 Delta2 with sata 150 hdd, when I install this hdd on the new MSI mobo, will that wipe out everything on the hard drive or, since it is also MSI, can I just plug in the hdd and then run windows, and then load the new drivers? Prob a stupid question.

I understand maybe being able to put the other systems hard drive in a different mobo right away (true plug-n-play, wouldnt that put Microsoft out of business) if same manufacturer as in this case although I wouldnt try it myself, wouldnt that hurt if it was an entirely new system and different video/ audio cards or how programs interact with CD/DVD burners? Your old SATA should work fine with the new SATA-II motherboard. As far as Windows registration goes, it seems (in my experience) that it only matters if you are using some vendor-specific copies e.g. Dell, Gateway, etc. If you bought a retail version you should not have problems. Even if you did, you are within your rights to use it as long as you are not running multiple copies. Furthermore, Microsoft does have a "reactivation" phone number, though I don't know of anyone who has had to use it with a store-bought version of Windoze.
I'd still make a backup as your already-installed drivers for the motherboard and disks might cause boot hangs or other problems. But if you can boot with the new motherboard installed and get far enough to install your new mobo and disk drives, you should be in the clear.
-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Ok i have a question. I have had so many problems with windows registration and one way or another i got it working.
Now it works just fine.
Im not sure if it has a dell windows on it though as i think thats the disc i originally installed it off.
Now the problem is i really wanna get a new harddrive one of thoose sata 300 ones. So if i do will i have all theese problems with windows again???

Use a cloning program such as Nortons Ghost or Acronis true image.
It will copy your hard drive or partition to a different hard drive and then format the old disc for future use. Exact copy, no need to register.

I found a link within the other I posted before that gives a .pdf manual.
it is really easy, connect both drives/ pick the one to be cloned/ pick the one to clone to/ sit back and have a cold one. There are a few other small things along the way that of course I am forgetting, but that link should get you the rest of the way.
__edit__ the only thing I think I had trouble with was not formatting the new drive first, I think it expects the new drive to be ready for the data before it does anything so maybe go into your computer management section and format the drive before running Acronis, whichever version (migrate easy is what I used) you use.

It said full trial for 15 day so it should work.
I should mention I have the older version but I dont think it will be a problem with the instruction manual I linked.
