Is it the media or my writer?

This is the second time I've tried to back up a game, and also the second time it's failed miserably. Whenever I try to play my backup, it's horribly slow, on my last attempt I left it on the loading screen for over an hour to no avail, it didn't load.
I'm using DVD Decrypter and Verbatim DVDs, in theory it should work but something's going wrong. Is it likely that my writer isn't capable of writing games properly, or is it more likely to be the discs? If it's the writer, how do I go about changing it?

try burning at 2x

my writer is a pioneer A05 and its single layered 4x max

well after burning so much i cannot even burn at 4x

so i burn at 2x and everything works

Could be either one, with that little bit of information is is impossible to tell.
What speed are the Verbatim discs?
What format (+R or -R)
Have you checked the net and tried to update your burners firmware?
What speed are the discs burning at?

@xkiriyama is you media DVD-R or +r and s it a straight rip to burn. I had the same problem when ripping and burning straight but noticed DVD-R verbatims worked better in Nero than in dvd decryptor so give that a shot.
