Hi,
You can use any basic video software to play AVI files. I would recommend either Real Player or WinAMP, probably WinAMP, I stick with that most of the time. Also, might want to check this out:

this is coming from a guy who regularly plays AVI files.
you can either use the free DivX player or what i realy reccomend is getting VLC media player it is free and comes with all the codecs built in and so can play a vast range of files from VOB files to AVI and it can even play ISO files. it is a great piece of software google it type in vlc media player, it is also known as Video Lan.
