HELLO IM TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THERES A FIRMWARE UP DATE FOR MY GATEWAY M520 (HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4040N) IWENT TO THE GATEWAY SITE BUT CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ONE FOR MY SYSTEM OR IS THERE A PATCH THAT SOMEONE MIGHT KNOW ABOUT

Try searching on the www.rpc1.org page. I tried the "4040n" string but it responded with something about Dell OEM. You mentioned Gateway. Try searching with different strings you might or might not find something. Not every drive will have updates available.
