Is there a way to increase Dial-up downloading speed? If not...is there a way someone can "donate" high-speed internet to me or if I can get high-speed internet as "calling card" form...that way I can put high-speed internet on my comp since I am a minor and my parents dont want high-speed and I do...

Thx, in advance...

If I insult you...don't get offended...my insults are "friendly insults"...I know this sounds stupid (ridiculous) but I am fet up of writing, "no offense" in my posts...

You are sooo lucky!! I would do the same but I am a minor and my parents don't want high-speed!! I DO have the money to get it though...

*edit* I have a free hotspot near my house!! I just have to walk a bit but from the inside of my house it is impossible to get the signal...so what I am saying is since it is a free hotspot, I want to get its signal from the inside of my house...so...is it possible to get something that can reach wireless signals from very, very far??

If I insult you...don't get offended...my insults are "friendly insults"...I know this sounds stupid (ridiculous) but I am fet up of writing, "no offense" in my posts...

2 min of walking I guess...in other words...I get 1% signal from my balcony!

When I stood up on my chair...I got 11%!! (that just happened twice but never again)

DSL = Better speed for your money

Cable = Faster then DSL but, check with your neighboors if they have it.
I have Comcast and it can sometimes be unreliable.

Fiber = Wicked FAST but, its expensive (I believe its $50/mo. but it might be more).

Also, who is your provider? It shouldn't matter when it comes to speed but, just wondering.
Maybe one of your neighboors has a wireless network you can tap into. ;)

When you say "HOTSPOT" you don't mean someone else's unsecured network do you? LOL.

So...is there a way to reach the signal?? And lol...no it's not a neighbours signal...the only neighbour I have with internet is my relative of some sort and she has a password but she doesnt mind if I "break" her security...but she doesn't know the password cuz shes not the one who put it and I don't no how to "break into" signals so...u no the rest...

P.S.
Is it possible to get High-Speed internet in card form such as a calling card xept its for internet? And if it exists, can a minor (me) use it? I live in Canada. I say this because I saw an add in the metro (I think in the US they call it the Subway) promoting cards for dial-up internet...someone please clarify this for me...but it would be better for me to get the free signal from the hotspot near my house...

Thx, in advance...

Maybe a wireless repeater or access point? I've never tried em before so hopefully someone can confirm whether it would work or not :S
edit--
I doubt they have the calling type cards for broadband or whatever since the phone line has to be enabled by the ISP to enable access for you, that process alone takes like 5 days.

Think of them as a signal booster, you place it somewhere around the end of the wireless networks range and it will divert signals even further.
edit--
Definition from Wiki- A wireless access point (WAP or AP) is a device that "connects" wireless communication devices together to create a wireless network. The WAP is usually connected to a wired network, and can relay data between devices on each side. Many WAPs can be connected together to create a larger network that allows "roaming". In contrast, a network where the client devices manage themselves is called an ad-hoc network.

So...if I am understanding correctly a "wireless repeater" "extends" my spoon to reach the soup?

Yeah, but I'm not sure whether you can use it to access another network since these things are really used to extend the signal reach within a network, that's why I'm hoping someone can confirm this...

this may not be helping me but I am learning alot and thx to all...but now...I got a new idea!!..I crossed the street with my psp and I got the signal at 13% and it was working flawlessly!!..here is my plan/request...I have the USB D-link thing to get the signal from the hotspot and put it in my balcony!! (the other one/the one that I can't fit in...that small...lol) So my question/request is: does anyone know where/how I can get/do this:
connect my USB device wirelessly to my comp so I can get my D-link thing in the balcony wirelessly without putting a USB extension cord over the other to reach it...

then...I guess I will have to buy ten thousand cables one over the other to reach my balcony? Lol...anyone know good prices? One very, very, very long USB extension cable would be even better for me! I cannot buy online!!!! but still show me things online because I know this guy who gets me good deals since I am his "reseller"...so he can probably help me...and thx again...I know this sounds very ridiculous but I need high-speed and I can't get it even if I wanted to!!!

P.S.

Well how far is the balcony from where your PC is located, in metres.
Longest I have found so far is 5m and USB 2.0 compliant.
Here is just one in the UK- http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=106114

I think that adding that cable to my other ones will do just right...thanks...now hopefully I can buy it...I will also buy a pentium 3 laptop to "drop by".
Muahahahaha! Free high-speed...and it's legal!! Muahahahah! What better can you ask for? Let me guess...a signal closer to home...lol...you can't have everything, I guess...

can you speed up AOL like you can with Firefox?

Or is there any other little Adjustments or tweaks to make it a little faster ?

There has to be something you can do inside AOL to juice it up.

Sorry, I don't know anything about AOL but go to:

Hope that helps!

P.S.
All those things, I think are just apps that compress images on websites thus making them look either a bit worse or like sh*t (your choice) thus taking less time to load.

I went to Best Buy the other day and came accross this (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=502)! I can now reach the hotspot near my house, right? Or does the router have to be a specific router in order for me to reach it??!! Please tell me because this is very important to me!
