OK s3a, here is the simple answer to your question:

NO - You can NOT increase dial-up download speed.

As for a high-speed connection, I am sorry but, unless you can convience your parents to get you a high-speed connection your SOL until you turn 18.

That wasn't my question! My question was: "I went to Best Buy the other day and came accross this (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=502)! I can now reach the hotspot near my house, right? Or does the router have to be a specific router in order for me to reach it??!! Please tell me because this is very important to me!"!

If I insult you...don't get offended...my insults are "friendly insults"...I know this sounds stupid (ridiculous) but I am fet up of writing, "no offense" in my posts...

Oh, sorry man I didn't see that question.

Well, your router brand/type does NOT matter, as long as you can get signal. I am not sure if you can get signal or not as I do not know the range of the hotspot etc.

But, as far as I know you SHOULD be able to get signal. I know this might sound stupid (and please don't flame me for it!) but, if you really want to, just go buy the adapter and if doesn't work take it back and make up some excuse.

Personally, I would not recommend the one you linked to though.
I would recommend an external device. I could not see one on the D-Link site but, I am sure other companies make them.

If not, then the internal one will be ok, I just personally recommend external over internal.

Peace,

Pop Smith

From the sounds of it, you are looking for something like this:
http://www.cantenna.com/

Don't know if it actually works or not(never tried it). If not, do a search on google for "wireless network booster"

There are programs that do that but it only works on browsing speed and not downloads since all it does is compress images and plus none [at least that I saw] of them are free!!

Note: The router is a normal router 54 MBPS with normal range, I know the d-link one will act as 54 MBPS instead of 300 MBPS and I also know that it will work with it BUT will it work from 4x the distance [like it promises] even though the router does not promise that?

P.S.
I DO have a USB 54 MBPS one but its not the MBPS that concerns me [as long as it is atleast 54 MBPS] it is the range (4x)! The only reason, I want that d-link thing is because, I cannot reach that hotspot from my room and with my PSP I had reached it when I crossed the street!

here is a page from someone who actually tested several models:
http://www.epinions.com/content_212508905092

from the results, the model from EtherDesigns which had the best results can be found here:

sorry, but you can find the Cantenna at Circuit City, Radio Shack, or CompUSA...
You may not have any of those in your town, so best of luck with whatever you decide

Radioshack became the Source by Circuit City, where I live. Should it be there?

You may be out of luck with the Source by Circuit City. I couldn't find anything for the Cantenna on their website. I did find an interesting do-it-yourself, with step-by-step instructions. You can read about it here:
http://www.instructables.com/id/EQARE4I72GEPUCHTHU/?ALLSTEPS

looks goofy, but the people who have used it say it works, and best of all, it's fairly cheap.
