Quote: I am able to copy/make back ups onto a CD.
But when I try on a CD-RW disk I get an error msg-nad the back up fails.
CD/DVD Burner Lite-On Single Layer (LDW-851S) Crossflashed to Sony Dual Layer (DW-D18A)
Windows XP Pro SP1 Build 2600
Nero Burning ROM 6.6.0.15
I have the same problem, only difference is I don't get the "error msg-nad" and my backup doesn't fail, at least I don't realize it does...Nero tells my the disc was created successfully, but when I eject it and put it back, there is nothing on the disc.
Any help.

In meantime will try the clean up tool.
Funny you mention the InCD- that conflicted with my U3 Smart USB drive so I set InCD to not load at start up.

Hello.
Your firmware is up to date.
Yes downgrade to 6.6.0.18. Version 6.6.1.4 is problematic/buggy.
Run the Nero 6 Clean Tool and then download and install 6.6.0.18. Links in the post above.
Unless you have to have InCD, uninstall it with the InCD Clean Tool (link in post above). It's drivers are active as your log shows.
You might try slowing the burn speed down to 32 or 24X and see if that helps as well.
Some burners just don't like some media sometimes. If all the above fails, try a different brand.

laddyboy -
forgot to mention-
I went to 6.6.1.14 because what ever previous version I had, I was having the problem. Just hope what ever version I had was not 6.6.0.18 !

Hello.
Th log doesn't seem to be a Nero History log or not all of the log is posted.
Can you burn CD-Rs OK? Is it just CD-RWs that won't burn.

Hi.
Are you sure that log was from the NeroHistory log file and not from another log file. It's easy to get them all confused. There aren't any drivers displayed is why I'm asking. You may need to run the Nero 6 Clean Tool again as well as the Nero 6 Driver Clean Tool and try reinstalling 6.6.0.18.

Laddyboy.
removed 6.6.0.18, then re-installed both the 6.6.0.18 & 3.1.0.21 - the 2 packages from your first post. Then used the InCD clean tool.
Still no luck-

Is the disk copy protected?
Nero can't copy a copy-protected CD.

ahhh.
Odd, Those were just a sample of my CD's that I copied to my PC.
The CD used would be quite old and I thought this copy protected issue new (2-3 yr old issue).
I have copied these before onto an SD card and have played on my Palm TX and even a MP3 player (SanDisk) so did not expect any problems.
Since these are CD's I own and for personal use, any way to unprotect/turn off DRM?
Thx again,

Oh, one other- do I need the 3.1.0.21 - The Nero Digital package?
I have a MP3 converter tool - dbPower Amp. But do not see a option to turn of DRM.

For backing up copy protected CDs there's a bunch of choices. Among them are these programs:
Alcohol 120%, Blindwrite, CloneCD, IsoBuster

One of the easiest approaches is to use AnyDVD from Slysoft. It works in the background to overcome copy protection on DVDs and CDs.

The second Nero package contains all the Nero digital programs like NeroVision Express for editing video and making menus as well as converting other video into DVD compliant video; Nero Recode for reauthoring and compressing DVDs; Nero Showtime, a software DVD player; and a couple other utilities for designing covers and dealing with photos. If you don't deal with DVDs you might not need the package.

Thanks for the sites.
As far as the Nero Digital- The PC came w/Power DVD and other DVD related, so seems Nero Digital is duplicative. Plus I did not have the Nero Digital/Showtime, etc in my older version, Nor do I recall having it with 6.6.1.4 - or may be I did not notice it.

I'm still not sure in my own mind what's causing the problem for sure. Did you try to burn to a regular CD-R instead of a CD-RW? If that works, there isn't any DRM causing problems, it's just the CD-RW media.

Nope, not the blank media. I have done everything suggested so far in this thread (sorry for not getting back quicker) nothing works...I can write to CD-R's DVD-R's and DVD-RW's NOT CD-RW's. I have used the following:
*Memorex 80Min/700MB CD-RW
*Imation 80Min/700MB CD-RW
*Maxell 650MB CD-RW
*Sony CDRW700 700MB CD-RW
*Verbatim DataLifePlus
Burned the same project to each one. Burning same project from a different computer...Works Great...Now give me a couple hours (Kid Duty) and I will let you know if the project burns successfully after I remove my Burner and place it in another system.
I can't give a solution, but I can test what does and doesn't work.

I have no clue why your burner will burn everything but CD-RW. It doesn't make any sense at all unless the drive is faulty in some respect. If it won't burn CD-RWs installed in another system, the fault has to be in the hardware itself.

That was the conclusion I thought I was going to make, but alas, I was able to burn the project fine when I put my burner in my other system.
So, somehow its software related...Does anyone have any ideas. When I burn, the light on my drive comes on red and it takes just as long as if it was burning a CD-R at the same speed...Nero even verified the data afterwards. But when I go to explore the burner...the disc is BLANK.

Definitely a mystery for sure. The only type of software I can think of that would be a likely culprit is packeting writing software like Nero's InCD. There are others as well like Drag to Disk, DLA, FileCD, etc.
The best and likely fastest overall solution at this point might be to backup the data on your system and then reformat your hard drive and reinstall the OS. When reinstalling applications be careful what CD/DVD burning software you reinstall.
