Hard Drive Over-Heating.HELP.

Basically i installed a second hard drive into my dell dimension 8400. And now my original hard drive appears to be over heating. The hard drive which is over heating is the maxtor hard drive, the second hard disk a samsung one which never appears to go above 38 degrees while the maxtor hard drive usually sits at 50 degrees and sometimes spikes to 61. I am using a program called speed fan to read the temperatures.

Is there any quick and easy solutions to this, is speed fan even correct.

If it suddenly spikes, the data is incorrect and you should disregard it. Download Hmonitor, I had problems with the accuracy of Speedfan. If one drive is 38C and the other is next to it, it'll be a maximum of 5 degrees different.

Hmonitor reports that one hard drive is at 51 degrees and the other is at 40 degrees, would that be right? Is it ok to run hard drives at these temps. Any suggestions on how to cool them baring in mind that the computer is a dell dimension 8400.

51 is not good. Erm have you tried cleaning out your case?

Maybe installing a fan soley for Hdd cooling!

Thats where i have the problem i haven't seen many Hard disk fans out there for a dimension 8400.

Well have you spaced the harddrives well?

I mean if there ontop of eachother then heat would transfer a lot better!

Try putting one at the bottom and one at the top
