ok its seems youre psp is ok for downgrade,
read some more post about whatcha gonna do to your psp
then if your sure enough you can follow all the details on downgrading then you can go for it.
i did a lot of research before downgrading my 2.0 to 1.5 MPH style.
yours should be Dark_Alex method as i read in most post here.

yes there is, scary isnt it!
but as i said before if you follow the instructions properly carefully you should have no problem, ask some people who have downgraded the dark_alex way so you'll know what they went through and all the things to keep in mind.

EDIT
oh and the GTA version you should buy should have a GUN logo at the main disc inside the UMD. thats what i own, and read in some post.

didnt u already check ur mobo ith hex, i think it eas the rite 1
remember if the gta wants u to update to 2.6 than its patched and if its 2.0 then its unpatched (u want this 1!)
