Hi chad4me
What's the exact make and model the burner? Did the firmware take?
What brand of 16x media are you using?

If you in the us you can find Taiyo Yuden (great) 8x here:

Ok go into device manager and right click on the nec. Pick properties>details tab - it will list your drive and give your the firmware version.

Since it looks like this drive's last update was from 3/2005 and 8x max - 16x may give it a problem.

What burn speed are using? What 3 different brands have you tried?

thanks very much for the quick response,i have tried maxell, imitation, fugi discs. i did update with the correct firmware through the steps you provided me that is the steps i took to find my firmware update.I tried flashing it as recommended.I have tried writing at all the speeds i can adjust.4-8-16- FAST AS POSSIBLE.I think you have nailed my problem there isnt as of yet a current update for me to burn 16x.Or possible i would have to up date the burner or just stick with the 8x.Thanks again&have a great week,Chad

If it still burns 8x fine - I'd stick w/ 8x media. Once that starts to fail then I'd get another drive. Unless of course you'd like to have a 2nd one.

Since the drive hasn't had a firmware update in over 1 year - they may not have another one to help w/ 16x speed media.

Yes 8x is getting harder & harder to find. Try the site above if your in the US. I've used them for about 2 years.

For the media you bought - see if you can return it. Maxell & Fuji made in Japan but Imation can be iffy at best. 2 other good ones are Verbatim & made in japan Sony.

Oh and you're welcome!!!
