Hello.

i'm a bit confused about this thing with burning ps2 backups.

I understand how it works with xbox, but can't figure out some simple things when working with ps2 backup burning.

After downloading a ps2 game as rar files I unpack them. Then I get an iso. From here i'm confused. Because when i reach this point in the xbox process I have to "optimize" the file using the program Qwix. After that you have an "optimized" iso-file wich is ready to burn, which has always been succesfull.

do i have to do something similary in the ps2 process?

I've read alot about the subject, but much of it confuse more than it helps. Some places people say that every game has to be handled differently and you need to process the file with up to 4-5 diferent programs. Like isobuster, "patching/rebuilding" etc. Is this the process where you make an iso from an original ps2 dvd or a process you have to do when having downloaded a game as an iso via torrent?

It seems very complicated compared to the xbox process if you really have to go throu so many programs and finding "game id's" etc. to burn a simple iso you downloaded via p2p..

please help.. :-)

thanks for the help!!

Depends on whether or not you want to play online and if you're using Swap Magic or a modchip. All you have to do to burn a straight 1:1 copy is burn the .iso with DVD Decrypter.
If you're using Swap Magic to boot the ps2 backup, the .iso file can not be over 4.35 GB as this is as big of a game image Swap magic can boot. With a modchip, you don't even have to worry about that. Only with Swap Magic.
If you do have Swap Magic and the game is over 4.35 GB, then you have to rebuilt the .iso with a few programs. Forums are stickied at the top of this thread so you can read up on it. But like I said, with a modchip, you don't have to worry about the size..

The only other thing about burning ps2 games is the kind of media you use. The ps2 laser is picky so I suggest burning the .iso files with quality media (again a thread is dedicated to this) and burning the .iso at half the media's rated speed..

If you want to go online, there's a DNAS ID forum as well. You get this program called WinDip 1.7 and use the ID of the game you're trying to patch. You MUST patch DNAS in order to play online with a backup ps2 game. The DNAS ID is broken down into like this xx xx 01 30 DC. The X's use anything from 0-9 & A-F. You try out different combinations of the first 2 sets of xx.

okay thanks for the explenations! Has cleared alot of things up for me :-)

I have "Slim Kit Pro + Swap Magic v3.6plus" - no modchip.

-my media works when burning dvd movies. Is that a bulletproff media test?
-my original games work when loading them in the swap magic schreen ( thou still getting a "not valid ps2 disk" message)

This is what i do/happens when trying to play a backup:
I get to the "load program schreen". Here i'm supposed to open the ps2 and put in my backup. When opening the ps2 I get the message "put in bigger TOC disk" - is this normal? after putting in the backup I get the blue message "not valid ps2 disc". This happens instantly when closing down the dvd-top/"plate", clearly no dvd-reading by the ps2 before this message comes which consernes me.

I burn using DVD Decrypter at half the media speed.

When you say: "All you have to do to burn a straight 1:1 copy is burn the .iso with DVD Decrypter."

do you mean "straight 1:1 copy" as an iso from a p2p site? like, unpack rar files and you got your 1:1 copy?

thanks for the assistance!

thanks for the help!!

Yeah, usually the .iso is a straight image of the game. Burning the .iso without patching the DNAS file results in a DNAS error if you try to play it online. But as long as you don't rebuild the .iso and just burn it, if the image wasn't previously modified, that's a 1:1 copy. You can also make your own backups. Open DVD Decrypter.. Click ISO/MODE/READ and save the .iso
ISO/MODE/WRITE to burn the .iso you just made back to DVD+R. Straight 1:1 backup.

What game are you trying to boot? There's backups guides for the most commonly used software in my sig.

i had the same problem about 3 weeks ago when i first started with my swap tool pro kit 2006 and swap magic 3.6,i found out i didnt install tool b properly, which tools are you using? it could be that one of your tools isnt installed properly, try reinstalling them.also if you have tool B you have to puch it in until the laser moves forward with a red flash then it starts working, if it stops going forward then try to tape the tool b down so you dont have to push your finger on it.If it doesnt work try looking at your other tool, tool A, make sure you push it down as hard as you can so it stays there and falls out.
