While I'm off looking for both system's specs, I would like to know if there is first-hand information that the bios' are the same.

Do you mean BIOS or the firmware?, the BIOS is incorperated into the firmware of the DS.

I mean the BIOS found inside of the DS and DS Lite that contains the firmware. Are they one and the same or did Nintendo use incompatible models?

I need to know this because my DS Lite was flashed by my stupid friend and he bricked it. The BIOS system sounds easy enough, it's just that I don't have the money to buy a new DS Lite which would sit around doing nothing.

You mean the flash chip that the firmware resides on? I wouldn't know, but I do know that the DS Lite firmware can be installed on some models of the old DS which would lead me to beileve they are at least compatible if not he same.

The original DS is soldered to the unit while the DS Lite bios is socketed? Is that why the restoration methods are different?

Where'd you buy the DS Lite, and how long have you had it? You'd be able to return it if it's under 30 days since I highly doubt retailers know about FlashMe.

And don't do try that idea... You'll only end up with two busted DS handhelds instead of one...

Returning it is not an option for me because I ebayed an Enamel Navy DS Lite. And it was so awesome.

Never let friends borrow your crap, man.

Buy a new DS from walmart then "return" the faulty unit saying it never worked, they almost never check.

I've heard stories of Walmart taking returns for stuff they didn't even sell when the person "returning it" raises enough hell.

But yeah, mr hanky's right. The most they'll check is to make sure it's busted... Just hope they don't realize they only sell white DS Lite's.

That's not really going to work. The color is on the box itself. I tried returning a game at my local Walmart and they wouldn't take it and it was even Christmas season.

Yeah, only white is available in the US right now.

o_O You're Walmart's return counter actually pays attention to detail?

Swapping out the motherboards might be more trouble than it's worth, but since I've never opened my DS, I can't really give a definitive answer on the subject.

No, the only way to remove the health and safety screen is to flash the DS. Also, the FlashMe recovery works as long as you get passed 5%. If the DS is shut off before then, it's bricked.

look like just a mobo and the screens
http://ruliweb.dreamwiz.com/ruliboard/read.htm?num=7093&table=gam...
as long as u can open it with a flathead or their tri-winged screws.
Maybe ds lite dont have those screws...
O and btw be careful with the ds lite dont bend it back too far ppl say that the hinges crack more easily if u push it pack farther (180degree+) than where it clicks

The DS Lite is meant to be able to sit open "flat." The problem seems to be a manufacturing error in which the hinge screws were being overtightened.

Please stick to the topic, cheshmonk.

As for Walmart, yeah, mine actually checks the stuff. It does suck.

I was thinking of switching bios', but wasn't sure about it. I should do it because I have a friend who's comfortable with guts of electronics.
