To play games without U.P.:
*You have to have version 1.5 or lower
*You need to have a loader to load your games images...
*You need to place your games images on a special directory (if im not confusing)
To play games with U.P.:
*Do you need version 1.5 or lower or you can have any version and U.P. will do the rest for you?
*Do you need a loader or U.P. will do the rest for you?
*Do you need to place your games on special directories or place the games images anywhere in the memory stick and U.P. will do the rest for you?
If U.P. wont do the rest for you what is the difference between a modded and an un-modded PSP?

Devhook emulates the 2.71 firmware allowing to you play all isos untouched. Using custom firmware you can set your PSP to boot to either 1.5 or 2.71, by a variety of button pushes. You also have all the features of 2.71 with devhook, like the web browser and rss feeds.
So.. the main features of the U.P are/were - all functionality of 2.71 and/with dual boot of 1.5, playing untouched ISOs, homebrew from the 2.71 menu. Devhook can do all this, it doesn't cost $100, and has better ISO compatibility that U.P
So will this spur the U.P guys on to make another innovation for the PSP? We shall see.

Ok, but then Ive a problem, I dont have installed the 2.71 version, Ive the 2.8, will devhook emulate also the 2.8 version to the 1.5 version?
And what do you mean with "untouched" Isos?, not patched?, How do I know if an ISO has been touched or is an untouched ISO?

Nope, you're stuck at 2.80 for a while. There's a rumored 2.70 downgrader in September, but there's nothing you can do but wait.

dev hook authors may include 2.8 in a future dev hook release if they crack it down.
devhook only run on a psp with a 1.5 firmware. then emulate most other higher firmwares thus making your 1.5 psp multi-firmware capable.
the reason for use of this is to play play backups/homebrews, play games wiich require higher firmwares, access to the extras (browser etc) found on higher firmware versions.
so dev hook in reality does what a UP chip can do and more.
UP will give you 2 firmwares, you make it a 1.5 for homebrew and the other the latest can even upgrade later revisions no problem.
You'll still need all loaders to play much same on unmodded 1.5.
as for directories use dev hook games goes here - msroot:/ISO
UP chip has some advantage though, homebrew on few psp models that cant be downgraded and yes unbricking the bricked psp.
untuoched means not patched/altered in any way. as of now there's no way of telling, but if you're a regular download guy, you'll notice at game title if its been ripped or full untouched iso/ciso/dax .

I see, thanks a lot!,
But also, If I wait with the 2.8 version until theres a downgrader for this version and then install devhook to emulate it am I gonna be able to upgrade my PSP version later than devhook has been installed?, or I might never upgrade it again (the version of my PSP)?
With dev hook installed do I need a loader?, if yes, whats the best one right now?

(Sorry for posting 2 posts one after the other, but I forgot to ask one question...)
If I install devhook and/or a loader, my PSP's dashboard interfase will change (will it be altered)?, or only after loading devhook and/or the loader after each time I turn on the PSP, or never?

Devhook itself is a loader, it's method of loading an iso is to emulate a higher firmware.
Yes you would be able to upgrade the devhook firmware to a higher one when it's available, if you upgrade your PSPs firmware to anything higher than 1.5 you cannot use devhook.
Don't hold your breath for a 2.8 downgrader anytime soon.
Peace.

dev hook emulates 2.71 as of now but will probably emulate higher FW when they cracked it. you stay at the standard GUI for 1.5 (no browser or any features) unless you execute the DevHook program which will create a virtual GUI of later FW eg 2.71. you have to start over for whenever you turn off your psp

"you have to start over for whenever you turn off your psp"
Unless you use a custom firmware mod, then you can set your PSP to autoboot to the 2.71 XMB everytime you boot up your PSP.
ON the mod I use, booting with the wlan switch up goes to 1.5, and booting with the wlan switch down goes to 2.71
