I have an Polygraph instrument that I need to connect to a Laptop. The laptop has 2 usb and I female db9(?). The instruement only has a female db9. How can I connect the 2 without buying a 179.99 docking station?

Sounds like you need a USB to Serial adapter. Here is an example.

There are more expensive ones out there, so do a little homework to find out what will work with your peripheral.
