Hi all :)

Not sure if this thread is supposed to be in this forum but I didn't know where else to put it. ;)

I use an EIZO L565 17" LCD as my main monitor (supposedly one of the best), at its native resolution of 1280 x 1024. It is plugged via DVI to a GeForce2 TI 64mb. I run WinDVD Platinum on XP Home.
If at all possible, I'd like to know how this setup compares in terms of quality to the best TVs available in the UK, and even the US HDTVs.
That would give me a good reference point as to the quality of my backups. ;)

Thanks in advance,

DDLooping - An LCD Monitor will show the back-up in good quality. You dont need to worry about it! The very best TV's - i suppose these would be High Defintion Plasma Displays or Pixel Plus Philips. If it looks good on your monitor it will be fine on them!

Test both the very black parts of the screen by turning the brightness way down to below 25% and put the contrast to full 100% Look for wavering blacks! Do the same for whites and light colours

Hi Oriphus :)

Thank you for your reply, it's very much appreciated. ;)

My 32" widescreen Hitachi (50z) is getting long in the tooth and it's good to hear I can gauge my backups with confidence. I wouldn't want any nasty surprises if and when I change it to something better. :)

Well, i cant see you getting any nasty surprises. you say your LCD Monitor is 1280x1024. Here is a list of four high-end Plasma screens:

LG MX60 PZ14 60 Inch Screen: 1280x720
1 year RTB £7695

NEC 61MP1 61 Inch Screen: 1365x768
2 year swap £9990

Fujitsu PDS 6101EH/S 61 Inch Screen 1365x768
1 year RTB £10500

Orion Vision PM 8401 84 Inch Screen (4 42 inch screenc with a 3mm line between each screen - remarkable really) 1706x960
1 year RTB £29795

Look at the resolution on these. These are the best of the best and your 17inch monitor has similar resolutions. I wouldnt worry if i was you ;-)

Thank you very much for the information, Oriphus. :)
I now feel I can safely use my LCD monitor to gauge the quality of my backups. :D
