Hi afterdawn friends!
I got up in the morning, the first thing I did was turning on my desktop pc as I wanted to complete the grafic project. Then I went and took a shower and when came back to the pc, I smelt that something was burning... but actually nothing was burning; everything inside the computer was very hot: the CPU (I felt the fan by hand), the PSU, the motherboard ( but not as much hot as the the PSU and CPU). I tried to turn it on but the only thing that happened was a half round spinning of the CPU fan. That was all. By the way, the little lamp on the motherboard is on when the PSU is connected the power. I DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT HAS HAPPENED :( . Please help me with this because all my projects and files are on the harddrive.
I appreciate any help.

disconnect all drives from motherboard & psu. remove all cards & ram except for videocard & 1 stick of ram. see if it posts than.

I did what you advised, but no it did not work. Before this happened the psu had difficulty working, making loud and irritating noise. Could it be from psu? But if it is psu why the little lamp on the motherboard is on? Could it be from cpu? could it be from RAM? I can't afford to change everything to see what is the problem. It is AMD Athlon xp 2000+, not very worthy. but still it coulk do a good job.

Well dont worry about your projects because they can be recovered by hooking the harddrive up into another computer as a slave.

Sounds like your power supply...your light is on but it doesnt mean that you're getting the correct voltage or to all the right places.

Try a new PSU first..borrowed or new

Be sure to strip to bare minimum before testing. Check Mboard for bursted or bubble capcitors or transitors. Visually check to see if all fans are spinning, pulled in, etc. I dont believe that its RAM or CPU.

hmm this recently happened to my sisters computer, it made a lil bit of noise. then she smelled burnt wires...then it went.. Kaplut...no power at all..whats the diagnosis guys?

this just happened to my computer recently. after much testing, it was the PSU. I bought a new antec quiet PSU and it works great. At first it wouldnt boot up on my computer so i installed it on another computer and put the psu back in mine and it is working 100%!
