Forget the fact that there's an .img file on the disc, its just a file extension used by PS2 inside a game. They could've used a .DAT file & you wouldn't be asking this question.

Burn the iso, load the game & play, regardless of the filenames/extensions on the disc.

it will be just the media you are using, i reccomend verbatim 16x DVD-R as there media has never let me down,

as for the .img file in your iso, it is meant to be there, many ps2 games have img files within there structure, im not sure why but i assume it is just easier for the ps2 to load from a larger file.

the most popular are verbatim 8x burned at 4x (so it seems anyway.

apparently 16x should be avoided.

I personally use 4x and burn at 1x, although I would try the 8x if my drive could burn faster than 1x.

in the end it's trial and error to see which works best for you, nothing's set in stone when it comes to this type of thing.

i would just like to know why u think the 16x should be avoided, there is nothing wrong with the 16x media as long as u burn it at the right speed,

for a decent burn, 1-8x media, burn at normal rate,
ie 1-8x at 8x
1-4 at 4x

and for the 16x media burn at 12x for a good copy
or 8x if 12x doesnt work, but myself i have never had any trouble with verbatim 16x sinse i started using them, jus back up at 12x and life is good

All PS2s can read -R, so go with those. Some PS2s aren't too keen on the +R type.
At the end of the day its down to what your PS2 laser likes/doesn't like. But with -R you're pretty much certain it'll read them fine, so long as they're good quality.

16x media is to be avoided because it causes a ton of issues with PS2 backups. For every person who has success with it, there's one who doesn't. If something is only going to work 50% of the time, it can't be recommended for general use. V.4's and later should read DVD+R's book typed to DVD-ROM. It's pretty much a given v.1-3 PS2's won't read +R's, even when book typed. I have a v.4 which reads +R's perfectly. If you're not sure, go with DVD-R's, if you find it can read DVD+R's, go with them. +R's tend to be of better quality.
