I have generated a number of backup's with Decrypter but find that when I put them in the PS2 they start fine with the "playstation" coming up then a square appears in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and then disappears and the game does not continue to load.
Any idears?

Yes, i agree with axmad, using crap media will ruin your ps2's laser, use good media, this topic has been brought up multiple times, there are stickies on the first page you might want to read.

How can we jump to the conclusion that it's crap media when he didn't even say what media he's using or what mod for that matter...

Exactly the first thought i had as well.
He never mentioned if he had a mod for his PS2 to even play back up discs.
So what mod do you have?
What media? (like TDK 8X DVD-R)
what speed did you burn it at?
that sort of stuff helps.

please specify your symptoms so that we can get things clear. as steimy mention, you can tell ur media speed and MEDIA ID.

hey guys. wondered if i can get some insight onto whats goin on. modded xbox trying to run MK trilogy. (the shizit) The game runs untill i go to the start menu. The sound crackled and after i press start the game diplays a "cd error" the game is on my HD and all i trensferd over was the img.file. I ommited the ccd.file and sub.file.
im thinking that those files are needed to tell the IMG. whrere to read the data. how can i fix it as im not sure how to merege the ccd. and the sub.files together with the img. and have everything boot as one. im using psx v13. i got Alcohol20 and i could figure it out.

A. Wrong forum.
B. You don't merge the ccd, img, and sub files. Copy them all to your PCSXbox-->psxcds directory and load the img file with PCSXbox.
C. It might not be compatible, check the compatibility list at Xbox Scene. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=69250
That list is a good general guide, though I've found some inconsistencies.
D. Try using CDRWIN to create a bin and cue image file. I find those are most compatible with PCSXbox. Here's a guide for extracting images to a bin and cue file with CDRWIN.
http://www.go.to/psxcplist
Just use the part of the guide talks about extracting the game to an image file, ignore the rest.

thanks for the info. The question was more about the ps backup procedure. the xbox info was just background info. the mk trilogy img and other two files mentioned didnt come from a dump but from a bittorrent. and the only way to make bin. cue is to scan the image from a cd that i dont have. i thought it might make a difference. still getting cd read error. again this is more related to ps software rather than xbox SW. so do i need to make a cue from the image? heres what the files are.
image file
ccd file
sub file......there werent any cues for bins.

Yeah, probably crappy media Axmad. I thought you had ordered some 8x Verb's and TY's.
@shelton10 The guide in my sig will show you to backup PSX/PS2 CD-ROM games. Just load the ccd file into Alcohol or Clone CD, then follow my guide. Do you have some means of booting PSX backups like Breaker Pro or a modchip for PSX/PS2?

sorry for the double post. i think i get it. the ccd is encypted so i have to extract it and slap the extracted ccd with the img file and sub file. on a cd. is that right?

No. Load the CCD file into CloneCD or Alcohol 120% then burn as normal using my guide. You're overcomplicating this, burning PSX games is easy.

You should be okay with the TY's and Verb's, that'll likely be the end of your problems.

i know but the problem is that i can't find 5 packs 8x verbs DVD+R easily in my area. there are either 16x, 25 pack or other dvd formats.
anyway i think if i continue TDK would ruin my lasers.

The brand doesn't matter that much. MIT Maxell's can code out as a lot of things. RitekG05 is solid media for PS2 backups. You can also end up with CMC Mag, which is awful. It's best to stick with quality 8x media like Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's. I've read you can get RitekG05 for cheap in the UK, that would be fine. Apparently it's a bit cheaper than TY's.
86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:

Remember, the digitalfaq guide is a benchmark, not absolute. There're several accounts of real world experience which put a lot of the rankings into question. There's too many to point out here. To put it bluntly, there's just too many variables that go into DVD burning to rank media with any kind of consistency. The digitalfaq guide is a good starting point for people new to DVD burning. It covers basic things like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim=good. Nobody with half a brain will argue that one. CMC Mag=bad. Some people will argue that, but over 1,000's of burns from people I trust, I put that ahead of what digitalfaq says. You can get by with CMC Mag for movie backups. For game backups, it's out of the question, the PS2 is simply too picky. I'm not knocking the guide. All in all, it's very solid. However, it's ludicrous to think that media can be ranked like sports teams, there's just too much variability. RitekG05 is solid for PS2 backups. I myself don't use it, but people that I trust have 100's of backups on it that play flawlessly.

Find another version of the game or get some 8x Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's.
