Emulator framerate and audio problems. Is this normal?

Okay, I have the SNES emulator mentioned in the sticky thread, and the PSPVBA Game Boy Advance emulator.

The SNES one initially had some glitches with sound (Zelda has a hissing noise in some areas that overlays music) and the framerate and stuff, but messing with the settings fixed it to the point where it was pretty much perfect.

But the GBA is almost unplayable. I tried Mario Kart, and the sound was just horribly glitchy, the response time to control input was way too slow, and the only way to get it fast enough to play as intended is to make it so choppy that it's unplayable. But to smooth out the framerate, it has to be far too slow to play properly.

In fact, all GBA games have the control problem. The delay between when you actually press a button and get in-game ackowledgement of such is severe.

Is there anything to do about this? Is it normal?

By the way, no amount of tinkering seems to make the GBA games anywhere near as playable as they are on an actual Game Boy.

yes its normal. the emulators are not totally optimized yet(or forever)
