i would like to which program rips dvds and results in the best video and audio quality

The quality is more in the encoding and burning rather than the ripping.

There are many free rippers and encoders out there that do an excellent job.

These three free programs will give you excellent quality results when backing up your DVD's. If you are really a stickler for quality, the you should look into DVD-RB. It is argualby the best transcoder around and delivers unparalleled quality, but you sacrifice a little speed with free tool.
