Hello. I just got Shinbido: Way of the Ninja today. Its was only released in europe, so it is a PAL game.
Heres my situation.
I used Jayteemaster's PS2 PAL TO NTSC PATCHER WITH Y-FIX V1.06 BETA to see if I can convert the game from PAL to NTSC. It worked fine and I burn it fine as well. When I when to try the game everything was in color and running ok except that the game was center well. The game's upper and bottom screens were off a bit and I couldn't see any dialogue text from the game properly.
So I decided to try jayteemaster other program. PS2 VIDEO FIXER 2005 V1.00. It says it didn't work well for PAL to NTSC, but I still gave it a good.
I patched it, burned it, and started to play. Everything was in color and perfectly centered. I could see the entire screen and everything. The only problem was that the game's audio and video get out of sync every now and then. (The game would freeze from time to time while the audio would skip like the disc is scratched or something)
So what should I do to get the best of both those programs?

Does it say anything like Matrix or ToxicOS when you turn on your PS2?

No, it doesn't. It boots up just like a normal PS2 would.

Do you have to reboot to play backups, or do they boot up automatically?

They play automaticly. The mod chip can also be shut off by holding the eject button until the screen appears.

I just tried using PS2 PAL TO NTSC PATCHER WITH Y-FIX V1.06 BETA again and Im starting to get that freezing and skipping problem with the games audio and video again. So maybe its not the patching programs, or the PS2's modchip. But instead it maybe the disc itself. I think im going to go get a skipdoctor to take care of that problem.
If that doesn't work..............then.......Meh, I just about ready to give up and wait for a US release for this game. (If the damn company feels like releasing it in the US, which they should....)

Then it's a bit hard to tell what chip you have. Probably not a great one, especially if doesn't support a Y fix for PAL games. What's the Media ID of the discs you're using? If you can get a usable disc image, then I don't think your original is scratched or badly damaged.
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm Huge List of Media ID's (Thanks to DogBomb): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/155431

Well I don't think the problem is video and audio sync anymore. Here are some things I've noticed.
*The video freezes and the audio skips when I play the tutorial level of the game, and when I play any other level after that, the game gives me the same problems.
*But when I start the game over completely (as in turning off and turning on the system again) and start on the differnet level, the audio doesnt skip and the video doesnt freeze at all.
So yeah, I really do think its my DVD disc that is the problem. Plus I checked that Media Disc List and Im using a Maxwell DVD RW 2.4x CD. My CD is one of the 1st Class Media discs so there is no problem with the success rate/quality of the disc.

Answer my question. Are you using DVD+R's/DVD-R's or DVD+R/-RW's? This is very important.

Like I said man, that's definitely the problem. If you can't order anything online, get down to a local chain store and pick up some quality DVD+/-R's.
106. Q. Where can I find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji and Sony have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no guarantee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. There's a trick to spotting Taiyo Yuden's under the Sony label. Newer 8x Sony DVD+R's (Media ID: Yuden000T02) will have an octogonal spacer (piece of styrofoam) on top of the spindle. 16x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's (TYG03) will also have an octogonal spacer on top of the 50 spindles. You'll still want to check to see if it says "Made in Japan" on the label, but newer batches of TY's can usually be identified by the octogonal spacer. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com
If all else fails and you can't find 8x Taiyo Yuden's or Verb's locally, pick up some Maxell 8x DVD-R's at Wal-Mart. Those will usually code out as RitekG05, which is decent for PS2 backups. Do not use DVD +/-RW's with the PS2, they will shred your laser.

Ok... I did what you said and got some Maxell DVD-R's because I couldn't get the other kinds.
I used one of the discs in the DVD Recorder Drive, but It didn't recognize it as a DVD-R, instead It looked as a CD-ROM.
I burned the ISO, and tried it in the PS2, but it didn't work.
Maybe its because its a DVD-R... Should I try a DVD+R instead?

Maxell are pretty crap media. You need to get hold of some Verbatim, RITEK G05, Taiyo Yuden (even though I don't rate them at all - others do) or some other Grade A DVD-R.
Always 1st with 100% working PS2 Online Game DNA$ IDs!!

It depends what the Media ID is. You can get RitekG05 under the Maxell label. I have a couple confirmed reports of this at Wal-Mart in the US. That was the 8x DVD-R's in the 50 spindle. I don't bother with Maxell, TDK, or any other big manufacturer, because you never what you're getting. The only Maxell's I'll bother with are the MIJ Hitachi Maxell's, those're excellent media. They'll say Made in Japan and High Grade on the label. If you want some RitekG05, order it online. Better yet, pick up some Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's. You can find steals on Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R's on a couple sites.
86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
