LiteOn 1693S, Nero 6.6.1.4, NeroVExpress 3.1.0.25 (all latest)

I've been burning to Fuji 8X DVD-R for about a year with no problems, then bought some Sony 16X DVD-R and it did work the first 2 times out of 4 then failed several attempts later with error messages of

Invalid field in command
Could not perform fixation
Burn process failed.

then I upgraded firmware on Liteon from KS04 to KSOB but getting

"drive not ready"
"could not perform Endtrack"

then upgraded to NVE 3.1.0.25 and got

"PMA update failure" in addition to the other msgs

then applied SMCPatch.exe from Nero after googling this issue.

then got "reset occurred" after an attempt. The caching is always fine , just that the drive cannot burn..

Media should not be an issue, it is Sony 16X . I have recorded fine on my standalone panasonic dvd recorder.

any ideas? I'll post the log if I can find it.

Hi:

The History log is in this path:

C:\ > Program Files > Ahead > Nero > NeroHistory

The file/log is divided into sections, one for each of the last several uses. Each section begins thusly:

====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
possibly your name
your program serial number

Windows XP 5.1
IA32
WinAspi: -
ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004

Be sure to omit your name and serial number before posting.

Posting the last section if it deals with this problem will suffice.

Check to see whether your system's DMA (Direct Memory Access) transfer mode is on using the following guide:

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf

Nero version 6.6.1.4 isn't the best version. It has some issues of its own. We recommend using version 6.6.0.18. To downgrade, first write down your program serial number and then download the Nero 6 Clean Tool and run it to uninstall the current version of Nero:

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/us/Nero_6_CleanTool.html

Version 6.6.0.18 is available here:

Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

The errors you note are very common when the burner and the media do not like one another. It could also be a problem with the burner or a problem with Nero, or a few other things.

To eliminate the burner as the cause, if you are using NeroVision Express, choose the Image Recorder as the "burning" device and create an ISO image file (Nero calls it an nrg file--same difference). Then try burning that created ISO file with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn (both free). Also use different media than the Sony 16X.

http://www.imgburn.com/
http://www.filehippo.com/download_dvd_decrypter/

If creating the ISO and burning as described above work, the problem then likely rests with the media or Nero.

Here are some other problems I note.

Burn process started at 16x (22,160 KB/s)

Try burning at 8X. A good rule of thumb is to limit your burn speed to half or less the rated speed of the media to ensure a good quality burn.

File 'Drivers\InCDfs.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 0, 3, size=92928 bytes, created 8/27/2004 10:02:30 AM (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP)
File 'Drivers\InCDpass.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 0, 3, size=28672 bytes, created 8/27/2004 10:02:46 AM (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP)
File 'Drivers\InCDrec.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 0, 3, size=7680 bytes, created 8/27/2004 10:04:16 AM (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP)

InCD can be a real troublemaker at times. Unless you have a compelling need to use it, run the NeroInCD Clean Tool to uninstall it.

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/us/InCD_CleanTool.html

Procedure to follow:
Uninstall Nero InCD.
Slow the burn speed down to 8X and try that.

If that doesn't work, use your Nero or whatever programs you use to output the project as an ISO file (nrg file in Nero speak). Burn that as described above in the other post with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn, both of which I consider better burners than Nero anyway..

Also consider downgrading to version 6.6.0.18.

Edit: typos

thanks laddy... My fault, I also tried it at 6X and it had failed on the attempt prior to the one shown in the log. I am going to go back to Fuji 8X DVD-R and see if it was just a matter of Liteon just not liking Sony for some reason.

Quote:
NT-SPTI used
Nero Version: 6.6.1.4
Internal Version: 6, 6, 1, 4d
I suggest you do as laddyboy suggested, remove 6.6.1.4 and revert to 6.6.0.18 (after running clean tool)
