hi guys

Im using TSSTcorp CD/DVDW Samsung SH-W162Z Writemaster(Firmware TS01) which i purchased aboout 2 months ago. I was using it without any problem and it was burning the DVDs upto the expectation. It took around 8-9 minutes to burn 4.7GB DVD. But yesterday as I finished burning the DVD on DVD-R|8x within 10 minutes as i tried to burn the next dvd it took 30 minutes. I was really surprised that how come it was taking this much of time. The blinking of the writer's green light usually blinks according to the copying speed but when it took 30 minutes to burn the light was very suspicious. It was going like blink blink stopped for a mili second then blink. Im sorry but this is how I can put my matter forward to you. My hardrive is having space of 18GB I think that wont be the problem.

Couple of hours later I tried to burn a Data CD on Sony CD-RW|4x and to make matter even worse it took 22 minutes to burn a Data CD. Im using Sony and Imation DVDs and CDs (DVD+-R 8x,16x)(DVD+RW 4x)with no problem at all. My Nero version is 6.6.0.15.

Can anyone guide me about what could be the problem. Is it with my DVD Writer.

Two things you need more than 18gb of hard drive space also your burner has slipped into PIO Mode it should be in DMA mode this will cause slow burning open up device manager and deleate the secondary IDE controller then reboot your computer windows will reinstall the controller and the burner will go into the DMA Mode

You might also try pulling the Samsung reader and installing the TSSTcorp as master. Use Nero InfoTool to make sure DMA is enabled and ASPI is correctly installed. If you still experience problems, especially if Windows kicks off DMA again, I'd contact the manufacturer seeing as it's only 2 months old. It's best to stick to the major brands as there is always more info/troubleshooting advice available.

MysticE by going into Device Manager, selected IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, selected Primary IDE Channel, Properties, Advanced Settings and then setting both at 'DMA if Available'. doing the same in the Secondary IDE Channel. restarted my pc and went back to the device manager it was showing 'DMA if Available' for both channels. do you think that sorted the problem.

You have to look at 'Current Transfer Mode' to see what it's at. Usually clicking in Device Manager doesn't help. XP probably had some read problems with the drive and kicked it down.

You should have Nero InfoTool, look in Nero Tool Kit. Check 'Configuration' to see if it's on. Check 'ASPI' and see if it days installed properly.

Like you said MysticE I looked in Nero InfoTool/configuration all DMAs are on. In ASPI there are 2 drop down options System ASPI(shows yellow bar: ASPI is not intalled) & Nero ASPI(ASPI installed & working properly)

Here is the information after going to Device Manager

Primary Idle Channel

Device 0
Transfer Mode: DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 5

Device 1
Device Type: Auto Detection
Transfer Mode: DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable

What does Not Applicable means?

Secondary Idle Channel

Device 0
Transfer Mode: DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2

Device 1
Transfer Mode: DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2

If I unistall the Primary Idle Channel driver will I lose my data on the ahrd drive?

Everything looks fine, I assume you have only one HD?

>>Primary Idle Channel

Device 0
Transfer Mode: DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 5

Your opticals are:

>>Secondary Idle Channel

Device 0
Transfer Mode: DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2

Device 1
Transfer Mode: DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2

There is no reason to touch the Primary IDE channel.

Usually folks uninstall the secondary channel to re-enable DMA on their opticals but yours is correct. Try this, in Device Manager, right click on TSSTcorp CD/DVDW (instead of the IDE channel), and click "Uninstall". After it uninstalls, reboot, and let Windows detect new hardware and reinstall it. Maybe that will do it.

As a side note I prefer to have my burner as Master (which is recommended by some manufacturers) and my reader as the Slave.

When you write data to a disc you have the option of closing the disc and no more data can be writen on the disc multisession allows you to add data to a disc and then more data at a later time
