mosts PS2 really do not like the RW discs. So if you plan to try this make sure they are a good quality DVD and make sure you buy a small amount like a 3 pack.
I would really just stick with 8X DVD-R, or even DVD+R is that doesn't work.

Was jus wondering if any1 managed to use a DVDRW to back up a game successfully and then re-write on the dvd again with say a different game

i dont think so , but i heard a few people asking the same thing about dvdrw .Use some high quality brand medias like Taiyo or Verbatim, maybe even SONY. USe DVD-Rs or if your using DVD+Rs booktype them to DVD-Rom that way you ps2 can read the DVD+R better. if your gonna booktype i reccomend using DVD Decrypter and maybe updating your firmware.

A little warning, when trying to play a dvdrw disc in your ps2, you run the risk of instantly burning out your laser (with slimline ps2's especially).

Its for real, one of the mod chip makers (dms?) did a bunch of testing on it. The reflectivity of rw discs are a lot lower than other discs, so the ps2 has a real hard time reading them. If the ps2 tries too hard, it will burn itself out.
