Have recently gotten into video capture, and am looking for a computer that will handle it well. Someone recommended Alienware to me, does anyone here know anything about their product? They have an option to build your own, but I do not know enough to try that. Any info. will be of help to me. Thanks!!

Hey there, I own a Area51 M5500 laptop and I absolutly love it. I wouldn't have chose any other. You are right about the price be a bit high but, it's worth every penny.

shadob,
Try building one on their site. It isn't that hard. Just choose the products you like/need and see what type of price you will be looking at. If you choose to purchase one, I promise, you won't be sorry!

He-Man,
Am looking at the Area 51-7500, but really do not understand all the specs. Also, it has customize options, but do not know what I want or need, so cannot do any upgrades or additions. Sounds dumb I know, but have never tried to get a machine that is configured for graphics. Your input would be greatly appreciated, just remember I do not fully understand the functions of every componenet. Thx again!

Sorry for the late reply.

What do you not understand. You said it was goning to be for video editing. So, let me know what else you would like to specialize in and I'll try to help best I can.

Also, if you could give me a link to what you have customized so far, if any.

Hey. I'm late to the post but meh.

I think Voodoo Pc's and Falcon Northwest make much better pc's than Alienware. Just personal opinion but thought I'd share it :D

You dont need a fancy computer if you just want to use it for video editing. Check the electronic store ads every week as I often see some pretty good deals at circuit city compusa and best buy. Glancing at them right now, I see that Circuit city has a Compaq with an Athalon 64 3800, 1GB ram, windows XP media center, 250gb hard drive, 17" crt monitor, Dual layer dvd burner for $499. I also see an HP at circuit city for $1049 and that upgrades the proccesor to X2 4200, has 320GB HD, adds a TV tuner and comes with AMD Live. Both of them are nice computers at great prices. If you dont mind building one, you can get a more powerful computer, as well as a gaming grade graphics card for the same price if you shop at new egg. Alot of AMDs are dropping in price, but you always have the people who will say to get a Conroe. Just do whichever you want.

X2 3800, A8n deluxe motherboard, 7800GT, Xion 2 case
2GB Patriot DDR 400, Audigy 2 ZS gamer, 400GB SATA RAID 0
games Im looking forward to: bioshock, SSBB, enemy territory quake wars, halo 3
currently playing: command and conquer 3, supreme commander, counter strike, shivering isles

Hi There! I checked Comet and they seem to be located only in the UK, I am in North Carolina, US. I am more interested in video capture and then burning to CD, than just editing photos. The Alienware area 51-7500 basic machine is all that I have looked at, at their website. The idea of the dual processors seems to have value, at least the way it was explained to me. One writes while the other one reads, I was told. Now I have gone to the Voodoo and Falcon websites and their machines look interesting too. I saw something there that mentioned a dual core processor, and am not sure if that is as good as dual processors. Also see from another post that Dell has bought out Alienware and do not know how this impacts things. The reason Alienware was recommended to me was, dual processors, 2.5G Ram, good graphic card. All of your comments are welcome, I try to follow up on everything that is posted, and I learn a little more with each round of research. So, any info. will be welcomed. Thx again, to everyone

i've lost all faith in alienware, selling there soul to the dell demon,... falcon northwest is a better company anyways. actually in a way this is a good thing for alienware there prices will go down now that there backed by a much larger company. first off you mean dual-core not dual procs. stick with amd processors they out perform intel 95% of the time. and i dont know if anyone asked but are you buying a laptop or a desktop?

Amd Sempron 3200+(Palermo) 1.8ghz | 1GB PC3200 DDR

Vegata66, A desktop would be best for my purposes. The tech who told me about Alienware specifically said "Dual processors, one reads while the other writes". Do you still think he meant dual core processor, would this be the way to describe it's action? You are the second person to recommend Falcon, so will go back and take another look at their website. Is there anything in particular that I should be looking for? Also, do you know anything about their support people? AS I mentioned to Niobis, the support behind the machine is very important to me. Thx again
