I have 4 MKV files on my comp that are dual audio. I can't open these files in TMPEG saying invalid format. I can't open these files in VirtualDub mod saying something about bad subs. I can't open these files in MKVextract sayaing something about chlig and child process. I can open it in avi2dvd because it only supports AVI.

I used river past video cleaner, and I can then output to AVI which will open in TMPEG for encoding, but it will only do 1 audio. I tried using a different type of avi2dvd and the audio was way out of sync. Is there anything else I can try?

well I can tell you about this error; "chlig and child process" it happened to me too.....you need to extract the contents of the "mkvextractor GUI" copy to/in MKVToolNix folder....the one under c:/program files/mkvtoonix/
then click on the GUI.exe file...prehaps while there make a shortcut to it.

here's the link to where you need to get and install Mkvtoolnix....

http://www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html

When you unpack the .rar/.zip it will create the folder Mkvtoonix...
then install the MkvExtractor GUI in that folder and the Extractor will Demux you .mkv completely.

That works great thanks. Just one more question. Having problems converting the AAC file it makes for the audio. I have river past audio converter but it says it isn't recognized. When I look at the installed codecs though I have the core AAC codec. I don't own win amp so I can't use it. Any other ideas?

I have no idea what must of that is lol. However, I downloaded a free version of winamp with limited conversion and I get "Error initializing output". Tried it with a mp3 worked fine. Maybe there is something wrong with my AAC or something, but I can't find any codecs or anything to download or reinstall. Any idea?

1.Google is a valuable research tool...Google...Mpeg encoders that support AAC.
2. AAC is an advancement above and beyond AC3...but many encoders are beginning to support it.
2. get the codec pack..i posted a link to in AdRock's thread about extracting .mpeg-4 audio.

I did google it but, mostly just got information on what it was. Didn't find specific codecs for it.

I downloaded that pack and see the AAC parer and codec, and went ahead and installed them both and it still doesn't work. Gave it to a friend who has the same one and he was able to convert it. So I wonder whats going on.

Ok, can you open the demuxed audio file in GSpot? Maybe post a screenshot?

what is the exact .ext on the audio file .mp4 or something else?

And most important...what are you trying to convert it TO?

GSpot tells me its not a valid AVI file. When I press render:

(S) --> AAC Parser --> FFDShow Audio Decoder --> (R)

Used AAC Parder
FFDShow Audio Decoder
Default Direct sound Devive

Says it was able to render

The file type ext says .aac, not mp4 or any other.

I am trying to get the AAC to WAV format so I can author it for dvd use.
