I have a black psp version 2.6. I originally bought it for my boyfriend, he dumped me, I kept the psp. I am not a gamer but I am trying to make the most of my investment. I can download a movie and music with no problems now. I have bought a handfull of used games that I like. I have even downloaded new wallpaper. What I want to know is how can I listen to my downloaded mp3 music while I am playing a game? Can a psp walk and chew gum at the same time? I have not been able to figure it out. So far I have been playing my game and listining to my zen micro.

You will first have to downgrade your PSP to v1.5 and the USe irShell to liste to your MP3's while playing your game.

I was afraid of that. I really did not want to downgrade if I did not have to. How successfull is downgrading from 2.6 to 1.5? I do not want to brick my psp. I got nervous when I used a SNES emulator to try out some games. The gaming gods were watching over me that day because I really did not know what I was doing or if I could do it again.

There has been a huge success ratio, veryyy lil' chances of failure...u'll love 1.5, trust me. Once you downgrade feel free to ask any Q's over here.

Well done on your aquired psp!

downgrading is no problem. Just read all the tutorials, and please please please check you motherboard is compatible. As for the downgrader, its perfectly safe, hundreds of people have done it. i have, over 10 times on differnent psp's. there is an easy downgrader which does it all for you, the link is on this site somewhere.

hope this helps.

Lets say that I take the plunge. What features will I be losing when I downgrade?

you'll still have all the features if you use devhook, as devhook emulates firmware upto 2.71

you can use ir shell or you can take out the at3 tracks and replace them w/your own out of the iso itself.

O.K. Let's say that I remove the at3 tracks and replace them with my own. 1.How? 2.Will that track become the default music for that game or can I switch up? 3.Do I still need to downgrade?

You would have to go into the iso's music folder
Yea it would become the default music
yea to switch up just convert different tracks to atrac3, replace them in the iso and rebuild
yea you need to downgrade cause its for isos.

Can't get around the downgrading thing can I? So in order to listen to music while playing a game, the music must be part of the game. The music can not be in mp3 format but atrac3. Boy I'm glad I did not throw away that sonic software when I stop using my minidisc player. And because I am messing with iso's I must downgrade. I will lose my ability to get on the internet. I won't be able to play games that require a higher version than 1.5. What about movies will I still be able to play thoes?

you can play all games to date using a program called devhook, with this you play your iso games and you can go on the net with your psp still,it emulates firmware so your psp will run at 2.71 firmware using devhook.
hopefully that doesnt sound too complicated lol

First off let me say that I am sorry that you and your ex broke up busybe.

Allow me to be clearer in explaining.

There are two methods to listen to music while you are playing.

1. Making a playlist in IR Shell and listening to it while playing games. This would be similar to doing whatever you are doing on your computer and having iTunes running in the backround.
Pros:
Simple
The songs can be in mp3 format
you can listen to music while playing anything snes/ genesis or psp games
Con:
The games music still plays. So except for some games where you can mute the music you will have two different sounds coming into your ear.
2. Gutting out the at3 out of the iso, replacing them w/your own and rebuilding.
Pros: There is no two different songs/music playing. Its your songs the way you want them.
You could change the music to your liking for all your games. Make it more fitting to your taste.
Con: It only will work on the game you changed. So you would have to do it for other isos if you wanted to listen to music while playing them or resort to step #1.
It may not be the easiest of things to do for someone who is just starting out in the psp scene.

Now about your question on playing the new games.
No that is incorrect. At this time you can play all available games, you aren't limited to the old games. The program steve mentioned allows you to play any games out right now. So that shouldn't be a worry.

Your only worry right now is whether you psp can be downgraded because some 2.6s cant be downgraded hun.

thank you joeva, you jumped into my head and answered my last question before I asked it. Cool! I will look at the other forums to find the information I need to know about downgrading. 1.I need to make sure that I have the right motherboard. I think that I do, it is a psp 1001 with only one bar code at the bottom. There isn't one at the top. 2.I need to educate myself on the devhook and the IR Shell program, where to find it and how it works. 3.Will a 1G memory stick be enough to do what I want? 4.Do I need GTA to make anything work? The Ex still has it.

@ss85, no there is no possible way as of yet.

Firmware - 1.0 > 1.5 > 2.0 > 2.5 > 2.6 > 1.5 > 2.6 > 1.5
I make my own signatures, isn't that an amazing and boring fact for me to put here? Don't PM me with an answer...well you could, give me something to talk about or you would probably be completely rude about the matter....just one more dot? ok ..... .
