Most of the new white psp's have sharp lcd screens whilst the black 1s samsung lcds and some white 1s also have samsung screens but the best lcd to have is sharp and most japanese lcds are sharp while U.S are samsung but u may find different results
I have been doing a bit of research into the question of which LCD is better. The Sharp or Samsung? I was able to determine the Sharp LCD Product number as being LQ043T3DX01. Got this thanks to lik-sang - (http://forum.lik-sang.com/other/psp-release/psp-release63.jpg). Based on this I went to the Sharp World web site, but was unable to find the exact model number, although some come very close. I found the closest model number in the LCD for "Portable A/V" section, being number LQ042T3GG01. The pixel res is not the same, but could be adjusted to make sense with the tow model numbers... If anyone can find the exact model, please post here.
As for the Samsung, I went to their web page and found this page. Notice model LTP400WQ-F01 with a resolution of 480 x 272. The same resolution of the PSP strangely enough...
The biggest difference between these screens is the brightness and type of backlight. The Sharp is far superior. Of course this is all based off comparing against a model number that is similar for the Sharp, and not the same, but all models that start with LQ0 for Sharp have at least double the rated brightness.
I hope this is not a huge noticeable difference, but based on the numbers I would say it is. I have heard that the Samsung screens are less susceptible to dead pixels than the Sharp, and the lesser brightness would produce longer battery life, but I wonder if the differences are worth it.
Anyone want to comment or add information to this, or find the correct model number for the Sharp, please do so.
actually, I found this out by accident when I first got my white PSP. I still had my black one and I was playing my new white PSP while my sister was playing Super Mario Bros. on my old black one. (We were side by side) I looked closely at the differences in the screens and realised the (Sharp) screen that was in my white PSP was MUCH brighter.
yeah i have noticed this too as i have a white jap psp and the screen seems much brighter and sharper on the sharp screen than on the samsung (i suppose it makes sense that the sharp screen is sharper lol)
